Good concept, but flat execution.

I liked the Inception/Groundhog day idea of it and actually thought that the shadow creature was Starlight Glimmer creeping back into the arc.

Luna overall felt really flat to me, maybe because she wasn't being dramatic.

Final grade for Bloom and Gloom is... 7/10. The redundancy of the episode's theme is offset by a clever execution of the concept and solid dream visuals which add just enough surreal to work with the comedy.

Either way, in a season with an arc all about cutie marks, it would just be ridiculous if the CMC still didn't get theirs by the time it was over.

Yeah, I'm leaning towards 7 as well. There was some good stuff (I'm sure a lot of people will appreciate the dark forest stuff basically being a shoutout to "Story Of The Blanks"), but I'm a little jaded on CMC cutie mark-centric episodes. At least the next one might have a fun Western adventure arc to make up for it.

The nature of the show (coupled with its intended audience) means that the path of nearly all the stories are going be predictable.
So being painfully aware of how the episode ends in the first five minutes of an episode stopped being an issue for me quite a while ago.

I'd say I preferred this week's episode over last weeks. While it was clear how both episodes were going to play out, there was more that made me laugh or got a reaction out of me than last week. I'd probably go with an 8.

That was an issue back in Season 1, wasn't it? They'd found their talents, but were too oblivious to notice as they were trying to get their cutie marks in other things.

But now that it seems we're going in that direction, I would like for it to be in an episode where they each use their talents to save the day.
