This was only Octavia's 4th appearance in the show.
First time her and that loser have been shown together despite the fan thing lasting for a long time now.

"Bloom And Gloom"...gets a 5/10 from me (this being probably the worst rating I have ever given an episode). The pros: -The dream visuals were pretty nice and the animation again proves to have been improven since the days of Season 1. -Twittermites were a nice addition to the bestiary. -I kinda love the bit with Babs Seed having gotten her cutie mark being the catalyst to the whole episode. I doubt Andy Price has that much clout that this was all his doing so that Babs Seed does not appear again in the future, so I look forward to her next visit. -Princess Luna continues to be best princess as the guardian of dreams. Especially since she did not create that shadow pony (just like she didn't create the Olden Pony and the Headless Horse in "Sleepless In Ponyville" or the Raricloud in "For Whom The Sweetie Belle Toils") but actually helps the fillies and colts of Equestria with their nightmare images. -I think I might like AJ's lullaby even more than Fluttershy's.  The cons: -OK, even all of those were dreams, there was just too much mean-spiritedness towards Apple Bloom in the whole episode. DT and SS being mean to her, making her believe that the town got destroyed because of her, the CMC abandoning her, her family abandoning her...this just overstepped the mean-spiritedness I can take and I just found it cruel. And since it took up the most part of the episode, I just could not get into it. -The whole "dream within a dream within a dream" was really confusing to me because I actually thought they were gonna give her her cutie mark in the beginning (and I thought the pony in the shadows was Starlight Glimmer at first). It took me a while to get it and it also took me right out of the episode. So yeah, while the pros and cons seem uneven in numbers compared to my score, the pros weigh less because they are tidbits while the cons weigh a lot more to the overall feel of the episode. Thus, "Bloom And Gloom" gets a 5/10 from me. |

Apple Fritter appearance, and the episode is one of the worst received in the whole series. Coincidence? I don't think so.
