I used to use my Sun-Man figure as Koko B Ware (of course, i repurposed plenty of He-Man figures, Ninja Turtles, and even other wrestling figures as wrestlers, He-Man made an excellent Lex Luger for example).

Went into my local toy shop today and just as I was about to leave I spotted a Sun Man on the floor between a chair and a case. Score! I'm actually quite impressed with the quality. The sculpting is good and nicely detailed, the paint seems to be high quality and it looks like both the head and body are original designs (although obviously ripping-off He-Man) and they even went through the effort of giving him somewhat different clothing instead of the usual furry trunks. So yeah, it looks more like a Galaxy Warriors-esque deal where they knocked off He-Man but didn't straight-up bootleg it but man does this look high-quality. On par with the actual MOTU line. The head looks a bit weird though, most pics of Sun Man I've seen have him sport a buzz cut and even the face looks different. I actually like the one on this picture a lot better. Looks more expressive and less doofy. I also found a rather minimalistic and old-school looking website dedicated to Sun Man: sunman.he-man.us/Someone else in the thread mentioned the line was created to have a diverse cast and cater to minorities, which is already nice but what I didn't know is that according to the site, it was created by a mother who wanted to make it because her son was disappointed that he couldn't be He-Man because he's Black and He-Man is White. Awww! You can find some bootleg stuff on Amazon. Saw someone selling MLP and Orange is the New Black crossover backpacks. Friendship is the new magic? |

I got him and a bunch of other vintage toys for $100. I think the guy only charged $5 specifically for Sun Man though. He didn't know who he was but my uncontrollable urge to share my knowledge of toys took over and I spilled the bean. Since he was missing everything and has considerable paint damage/fading he didn't charge me the ebay prices he was seeing. |
