For people who have read all of the books... {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}I have a feeling they won't have a Nights Watch mutiny, because I can't see Jon planning to go south like in the book. So I just figure Olly will misinterpret Sams advice in this episode and stab Jon in the back. Just a thought. {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}Agreed. I think the season is going to end with the scene of Olly stabbing Jon in the back and causing chaos at the wall between the different factions. The last image we see will be of the camera panning to just north of the wall as the army of the dead march towards it while everyone else is fighting inside and the screen fades to black.

Excellent episode. Looks like this season is finishing up strong, which is exactly what it needed after a slow start.

Also, Roose Bolton just got the biggest win-win-win scenario imaginable.
If he sends Ramsey and 20 other men out there, he guarantees one of two things:
1. Ramsey succeeds and Stannis is basically lost.
2. If he doesn't make it, Ramsey's dead. Thereby, ensuring the safety of his wife and unborn child.
2. Ramsey makes it and doesn't succeed, it ensures the safety of his wife and unborn child, and Stannis gets delayed a bit more. Allowing for more time to plan for a future siege.

After the suckfests of the last few episodes, this was a vast improvement.

Predictions for next week, since it's Ep 9, when things are brought.
Ramsay kills Shireen and/or Mellisandre. Arya doesn't kill the Merchant, but kills Meryn Trant instead who was heading there with Mace Tyrell. Great f***ery in the fighting pits Super Bowl.

I think whatever happens with Ramsey will involve Shireen and Selyse and will happen in episode 10, which is called "Mother's Mercy." {Spoiler}It would also explain the scene in the trailer with Selyse weeping on the ground at the feet of some soldiers.

This episode, for me, puts a lot of things in the show into perspective. Everyone else is fighting for land, money, sex, whatever. Yet, it now looks like not a bit of that will matter now that we've seen what the true threat is. Even though he's dead, Ned Stark was wise enough to realize that there truly are things beyond everyone's individual ambitions and satisfactions in Westeros. "Winter is Coming", indeed. Looks like Winter is here. To quote Sam from the 1st season: "I hope the Wall is high enough." I am really nervous about next week because something big always happens in the 9th episode (1st-Ned Stark's beheading, 2nd-Battle of Blackwater, 3rd-Red Wedding, 4th-Battle at the Wall). I don't know what's gonna happen but it's safe to say it's gonna be talked about non-stop.

Last night highlighted my larger problem with Dany though as a leader. She talks a big game about how she'll just crush those who oppose her, but she was sure quick to bend to the wheel of the noble families and reopen the Fit Pits. Westeros is obsessed with bloodlines, and there'll be more resistance than she's banking on when it comes to asserting herself onto the throne.

My theory on Stannis, Melisandre and Shireen... {Spoiler}Melisandre will sacrifice Shireen, but it won't be through flames. Then she'll try to resurrect her. I think it works. Beniof and Weiss have said the last scene will be a book scene. I think it'll involve King's Landing {Spoiler}and Kevan and Varys.

Should have known when I asked before that the White Walker King would be the main villain. The beautiful thing is it was him and his army all along, it just took until this episode to realize how much of a threat they are.

When I talk to co-workers or friends of mine, we mention the usual players...Boltons, Starks, Lannisters, etc, but we almost always end up with "but then you have the White Walkers too, what role will they play?"I do think the plans from people like Littlefinger and Varys are going to go to shit when they realize how much of a threat the White Walkers are, kinda hard to rule when you're an animated corpse.

Kinda obvious in theory, but when they only had 5 scenes devoted to them over 5 seasons, it's hard to remember them as a threat.

I'm still curious to see what role Bran and The Last Greenseer will play in this war between the living and the white walkers.

So... the Free Folk see Tormund come back with the leader of their enemy, Tormund kills one of their officers for no reason... and they just let that happen, despite being ready to draw their weapons a few seconds earlier? How does that even begin to make se-oh wait, Game of Thrones logic. Aside from that detail though, it was a good episode in my opinion. The North storyline is finally paying off and the zombie/Wights/whatever attack was damn cool, not to mention a major a game changer (no pun intended). In fact, I would argue this may have been the best action sequence in the show yet. Very well shot, very well directed, has a lot happen, tells a story, looks fantastic. I was honestly impressed with it a lot more than I was with the Red Wedding, the battle of Castle Black or any of the previous major battles. And... holy shit, I can't believe I'm saying this but... it finally happened! I give a f*** about that storyline!! Seriously, now that I've seen that, every other issue in Westeros just looks so... insignificant. I wish this season had been paced like this one from the start: focus on one storyline so you have enough time to properly develop it, with a few bits from other sub-plots to keep them rolling. Also, I'm getting the impression they're trying to pull a Jaime with Cersei by trying to make us like her just because she's being treated harshly. And much like with her brother/f*** buddy, it's not working for me. White Walker King: This ain't over, Jon. This ain't over by a long shot. At first I thought he was like, 'come at me, bro!' I thought he was going to drop the mic. Which is pretty much what he did, come to think of it. Dammit, ever time I think I'm out, this show pulls me back in. Bastards! It's the WWE of fantasy. I gotta tell you the effects on this show are better than some 200m movies. How do they pull it off? I must say I was very impressed with it as well. It's a huge scene with lots of extras and it goes on for a fairly long time. Can't have been easy to pull off, not to mention the cost. I think what made it work is that they went the Jurassic Park way and used mostly practical effects for close shots and kept the CGI for stuff that's in the distance and/or in the dark.

Westeros is obsessed with bloodlines, and there'll be more resistance than she's banking on when it comes to asserting herself onto the throne. That's the whole point of her character: she's a naive teen who wants to do good but doesn't realize that the real world is a lot more complicated than she thinks and that just because things have been going her way for a while doesn't mean it'll keep being the case just because she wants it to be. She thinks power is all she needs to gain the respect of the people, but it's not power that people respect, it's the ability to put it to good use.

Yeah, it was weird when that Lord of bones dude was getting head caved in and they were just standing around like, "buddy, do you need us to call 911 or something? "
I guess the point was that Tormund was so respected that just let him do whatever.

I was in the impression that with the wildlings, if you want something you beat the shit out of the one who can give it to you to get it. Or at least those little bits of info about wildling culture that Ygritte spouted in between flirting with/boning/"You kno nothing" Jon Snow made me believe so.
Tormund wanted the elders, Lord of Bones says no, Tormund kills Lord of Bones, elders he has.
