Yes Shamrock, Blackman, Severn were all legit badasses but they all sucked, pretty much. At least in comparison to the roster at the time. AUSTIN ROCK TAKER KANE FOLEY HHH etc. Sure Severn could beat Austin & Rock in a real fight but noone wanted to see that.
Now Lesnar is a different case. He's the f***ing man.

They wanted to build Dr Death for Austin as well but Brawl for All killed that. I found Severn boring as hell, but had he been built right he could have been a bigger star. When did he leave and why?

Severn was my favorite UFC guy at the time but he didn't translate well to WWF. Shamrock adapted to the style really well but Dan seemed like he just wanted to shoot on people.

Because he wasn't very good in the ring and unlike Shamrock who had a strange mixture of both intensity and charisma he was boring as shit to watch. He left around sometime after the 99 royal rumble over due to creative differences and if what he said is true with whole become part of the MOD by getting 666 tattooed on his forehead then maybe it was for the best. But its not hard to see why didn't get very far as he boring as hell and lacked the mix of intensity and badarse charisma that Ken Sharmrock had. Not to mention one does wonder since he was still doing MMA fights in minor league promotions how serious was he with his WWE career.

Wasn't he one of JR's boys and they kinda screwed Bart Gunn over payment once he knocked Severn on his arse?

Watch Rock vs. Severn from KOTR '98 and you can pretty much feel the air go out of any big plans they had for Severn.

To be perfectly honest, Severn joining the MOD doesnt seem like such a bad idea if it wasnt so jobber-ish with the likes of Mideon and Viscera. Had it been a more legitimate stable then that gimmick would have been pretty cool for him and given him more to do - He wouldnt have to speak, just look menacing and evil. The 666 idea would look cool and it would have been better than Mideon and Viscera.

All respect in the works for Severn's MMA record-but he just wasn't good as a pro wrestler. He had no charisma at all.

He couldn't emote to make you care, but he looked like (and in fact was) someone who could just beat your ass. I'm reminded of what Steve Blackman once said, "Why would I talk about kicking your ass instead of just going out there and kicking your ass?" Off topic, sorta, but Severn was the Julio Cesar Chavez of MMA. His pro record is almost video game levels of insane.

He was a bad motherf***er and I definitely believe that they could have gotten a lot more out of his run than they did but I'm leaning toward no. There were so many more compelling guys for him to be a main eventer but I thought he could have been a solid midcarder.

Yes indeed Severn should have been at the top of the card. I could picture Cornette rolling a wheelbarrows full of his title belts to ringside. One falls to the floor and The Beast is like "meh, leave it there".
