The idea that the most over guy doesn't need the belt baffles me to the core. What does overness mean then if not that sort of thing?
What criteria then? Height? Weight? Length? Girth? How stiff they get Vince?

Triple H beating Goldberg once wouldn't have been a big deal, until you realize that Goldberg was pinned 3 times during his WWE run, it was HHH all 3 times.
That's just beyond inexcusable.

Ugh...every time I think about stuff like this it makes my dislike of Trips that much stronger. And he always uses the "I didn't book it it was Vince slapping his old ass fingers on the keyboard with a MS Excel document open" excuse. Suuure you didn't. If it was his ego, then why did he beat Goldberg and Sting through heavily cheating and basically putting them over as the better man?People are adding 2 plus 2 and getting 6 here. Plus Steiner's gimp foot had no business as world champion, anyway. If he was healthier and didn't give us one of the shittiest title matches I've ever seen, maybe that'd have bothered me. No way did he make Sting look like the better man. He beat him through cheating and still got Sting to shake his hand. Then Sting never went for his revenge afterwards and Hunter is yet to give him any credit on the mic. Putting someone over is much more than what goes on during one match, especially if that person doesn't even win. People still talk about this because WWE brought it back up. And the reason it looks so silly is because Hunter did an awesome job putting over Bryan and The Shield, yet he and Vince have to beat WCW once again, 15 years later; they're the ones who keep the joke alive.

Given his position on the card and the character at the time of these wins for the most part, the shocker would be if he HADN'T beaten all those names.
Not getting the offense.

...That's pretty much the #1 reason TO put a belt on someone. The Junkyard Dog should've been the WWF Champion. Jake Roberts should've been WWF Champion. Tito Santana should've been WWF Champion. Nikita Koloff should've been NWA Champion. Lex Luger should've been NWA Champion in 1988. I can go on and on, you totally missed my point. Just because you're over does not mean you need, nor deserve, a run with with one of the top belts. JYD - Was indeed over as *uck and SHOULD have held the IC strap at some point. WWF champ only no because his time in WWE was in the middle of Hulkamania and Hulk was more over a bigger star and titles did not change hands the way they do now. Post 1993 booking style I would say yeah he would have 100% deserved to a title reign at some points. Roberts feuds were always top notch without a belt Tito was never over enough to be WWF champ. He was a good worker and deserved where he was in the mc Koloff definitely should have been. The reason WCW was in the shitter when Hogan got there is they never properly elevated guys like Muta and Koloff in the late 80s early 90s when they were over and hot and instead of trying to make Flair's boys like Windham main eventers.
