... would change the least?
I had to specify "longterm" to keep someone from saying, I dunno, the Patriot or Faarooq or something. I'm talking a constant main-event presence for years on end, and not just in a Benoit sense where they're not really acknowledged; I mean straight up, if they were never around, the lack of what given star ever existing in the WWE / ECW / WCW canon would really change the least?
I'm not really wanting to say Orton since he seems like too recent of an answer but... Yeah, trying to mull over examples my mind just keeps coming back to Orton. He's almost always been just been kind of a clinger-on to other people's storylines and momentum, with his own stuff (outside of the run-up to Mania 25 that didn't really amount to anything anyway) usually being overshadowed by other things going on in the company at the time.

Edge since he barely held the title for longer than 5 minutes each time he had it.

Edge since he barely held the title for longer than 5 minutes each time he had it. At the same time though you'd also be removing how he was part of basically completely inventing the modern idea of a ladder match.

Big Show was someone who came to mind for me.

Big Show, and like I always say in threads involving him, it is a crime that they have made one of the best big men in wresting history into such an afterthought.

Precious little has changed w/ CM Punk taking up the "disgruntled and ignored former champion" mantle from Warrior, Bret, Bruno, etc.

Sheamus has been a main eventer almost literally his entire WWE career, and yet he might be that answer. When the biggest over arching change to WWE history would be one degree away from what Sheamus himself did (namely, if Sheamus wasn't around, 18 Seconds may or may not happen, leading to Daniel Bryan's rise not happening)- that might be close enough.

I was going to say Del Rio, but I think Sheamus would affect things even less. he's just "there" and it feels like he's never done anything memorable. the only thing he ever did was end up on the wrong side of the "18 seconds" incident, and that could've happened to literally anyone.

Sheamus and Orton. I know both have been World Champ multiple times, but I don't recall any memorable moments for any of their title reigns other than Orton unifying the WWE and WHC.

I love him but Alberto Del Rio came immediately to mind As much as it pains me to say it cause I've always rated the guy and think WWE squandered his potential I agree.

I know this is just my gigantic hate bias against him talking, but...
Rey Mysterio.

Honestly, I'd argue most guys but Cena could be. It's the downfall of building everything around one guy at the expense of everything else.

I know this is just my gigantic hate bias against him talking, but... Rey Mysterio. I loved Mysterio in WCW (well maybe not the filthy animals part). Watching him work was great. Still, his is the name I came here to say. Probably two of the worst Title Reigns ever and never really contributing anything good to the main even scene. When the most memorable thing is your kid's custody on a pole you took a wrong turn.

Del Rio, which really sucks to say because the man deserved the push he got out of the gate based on his talent. There's no reason a second generation wrestler who has the legitimate pedigree he has and all of the physical and most of the mental abilities needed to succeed should have floundered nearly as much as he did. Probably the worst failure by Creative on a single person ever.

Whether it's good or bad is up for debate A "what if" scenario where Cena has to hang it up after the 2004 Rumble could be a hell of a prompt for a fantasy booking contest.

Triple H
Think about it, what would be lost that you'd lament?
I think WWE would even be better off without him.
