So, where to even start on that thing? Just... God, that match I think was an active, conscious attempt to kill the crowd. Though at least the main event eased the damage it caused.
It was so weird how it was a greatest hits collection of Cena's hardcore matches. Chucking steps, being mercilessly beaten, DO YOU QUIT?! DO YOU QUIT?! DO YOU QUIT!, choking gently rubbing the ropes on someone to the point of helplessness, explosions...

Mike Chioda with some superb line reading.

I didn't hate the finish like a lot of people seemingly did but the match was boring as f***. They did not need anywhere close to 30 minutes.

I didn't hate the finish like a lot of people seemingly did They should have seen ti coming I said exactly what would happen weeks ago Also I'll put it here but I keep seeing Rusev threatening to harm Lana to get Cena to quit... but I've had the suspicion since the match was started that Lana will throw in the towel for Rusev because Rusev won't quit. (Yes I know it hasn't counted in the past but when the hell has that mattered in wrestling?) Rusev gets pissed off at Lana for doing it since they mentioned at Mania the No Mercy condition for Lana to continue being allowed with Rusev and that's why they split.

I didn't mind the finish because it meant that the match was over.

I didn't mind the finish because it meant that the match was over. This is true. I dunno, my main issues with the finish were 1), it contradicted the stupid part where Cena passed out and Rusev started prancing around like an idiot, and 2), Lana turning face is absolutely moronic. But still, at least that shitfest was finally over.

I was mostly admiring my fish aquarium while this match was on.

I thought it was great. Cena going for what he knows works since he has had so many of them, Rusev looking like the biggest badass in WWE and Lana's concern for him after all he took and the damage being done to Rusev's leg (seriously, the commentary helps people) forcing her to use her managerial abilities to step in was well done.

Usually when WWE has shitty gimmick matches, I can understand what they're going for. Here though, I've got no f***ing clue at all what they were trying to accomplish by having the ref ask Cena/Rusev every 5 seconds if they wanted to quit, sometimes when nothing at all was done to them. It's one thing to have a gimmick match, but to do it that badly was amazing for all the wrong reasons.

It was especially weird when they'd do a spot, the ref would ask, the other guy would go to grab a weapon or set something up, and the ref would ask again like the guy's mind suddenly changed in the last thirty seconds.

Having Mike Chioda asking Cena (and later Rusev) constantly if they wanted to quit completely killed the vibe of the match. Usually, you should keep that part in key spots to build the match to its climax. Instead, he did every 2 minutes. I've seen I Quit Matches so much better than this one.

Yeah I mean the whole point is that a guy needs to be in a vicious hold or beaten severely before the ref asks him if he quits. Tonight it was every minute of the match. I don't get how this has become some kind of Cena staple when he SUCKS in this type of match. When he says "No!" it has all the enthusiasm and drama of a guy ordering coffee at Starbucks. I figured Lana quitting for Rusev was the finish going in.

The most egregious part of it to me was the stupid pyro mine. The Rusev knocking Cena out thing is stupid because it does open up really terrible logic to the match that the rulebook actually suggests you revive an unconscious man just to make him quit. But if they're splitting Lana and Rusev, ugh, I guess this was a good way to do it.

See, I would say that the ref is asking because the guy sees what's coming and asking if he wants to avoid it, but I remember a couple of times where that happened to Rusev and he wasn't even looking at what Cena was holding/doing. I don't know if it was just bad communication, but it looked pretty awkward.

The commentators (Lawler I think) actually said that one of the times it happened. For the record I was DMing a D&D session at the time and had it on in the background... from what I enjoyed what I saw of the match but my attention wasn't entirely on it.
