A little off topic but does anyone else feel like the entire promotion lost a ton of steam that they never really regained when they rebranded them selves IMPACT WRESTLING rather then TNA?

If we are trying to pinpoint the moment where things got screwed up beyond repair, I vote for Hogan and Bischoff coming in. That's when TNA became more concerned with trying to compete with WWE instead of actually being an alternative. They lost focus of what should have been their overall goal.

This makes me feel sad. I really will miss this damn board. I don't post much here but I lurk often. This section knew how to roll with the punches no matter what shit Dixieland threw at ya. Chicken salad out of chicken shit and all that. Assuming this section closes, I request for my retro TNA reviews thread to be moved to the other section.

To be honest, I tapped out somewhere right around the Aces and Eights peak.

TNA reminds me of the messed up family member or friend you hope for years will change, but never does. Eventually you just give up on that person, and move on.

What a long, strange, demented road TNA took to this point. I can't imagine anything like it in modern wrestling history.
I kept up with it for awhile once they made the move to Destination America, and it felt nice for a bit; honestly, some of the TV content around the time of the move was among the better work they'd been doing in a number of years. But once all the news of the low market saturation, the continued lack of a public response for live events, and other awfulness kept breaking, it honestly became harder and harder to follow closely, since that sense of "it won't last" wouldn't go away.
So much "could have been" in TNA history. They had a span of time (approx. 2003-2010, at least in that range) where they could target WWE by being able to legitimately say "our in-ring work and wrestlers can put on a better show for you than WWE". But they could never, ever do anything to get beyond that possible selling point, and often seemed to work overtime to devalue it with endless swerve endings and what have you. Once WWE began putting on a better in-ring product (maybe not a great overall product, but in-ring HAD to improve with the rise of Punk, Bryan, Cesaro, etc.), TNA's greatest weakness was even more greatly exposed: the company's inability to book a huge match and get it to draw. They may have done it once: Joe vs. Angle at Lockdown for the title, their highest earning PPV. Outside of that? So many wasted potential dollars.
It kind of has me sad; earlier this year I was starting to get back into watching current pro wrestling, in general, keeping up with NJPW, Lucha, ROH, and TNA as best I could. Each show felt different, each was offering at the very least a decent product, etc. Work just got to be too much, though, and now all the news I read is how none of them are really growing (well, ROH is growing, but has a limited ceiling), and now TNA is likely on death's door. Maybe when summer kicks in I can get back on the NJPW hype train, but, really, the landscape of wrestling in the US right now is just awful.

Let's say TNA does shut down sometime soon, the board will stay up another 6 months just to let all convo die down and to give proper lamentations. All current threads will be moved to wRest. It's far off, and you'll have plenty of warning before hand.

"TNA was a mistake, it's nothing but trash." - Bob Carter did he really say that? cause I believe it. Nah, I was just rehashing the fake Hayao Miyazaki quote about anime. But I do think he feels this sentiment.

I do think that at the end of the day, Hogan, Bischoff, and the move to Monday will be seen as the turning point for TNA. Once they moved to Monday, they lost a large portion of the audience they'd collected and they never ever recovered from that move.

Guys, is Rellik Killer spelled backwards?
I'm pretty sure, but I need confirmation. Does anyone maybe have a quote from a credible source on this matter? Like, maybe Mike Tenay?
Has Mike Tenay ever confirmed that Rellik is Killer spelled backwards?

It's weird because there's so many moments where TNA just screwed up absolutely everything that you could mention here. The most recent one that I think deserves to be shouted out is the Bellator co-promoting, specifically Tito Ortiz coming in. Not only was it hated by even the most loyal TNA fans, but right after this is when reports about TNA being near-death shot up pretty massively. The fact that Rampage vs. Ortiz ended up getting cancelled makes it even worse in retrospect.

I can't say I'll shed any tears if this is truly the end of TNA. It sucks that people might be losing their jobs. But TNA has absolutely NO ONE to blame but themselves. For years they had one of the best rosters on the planet in terms of talent, but they never treated them like they were Every single time they had a good thing going that could have been their big crowning moment of their entirely homegrown main event talent they found a way to f*** it up. Not to mention the shit they apparently pulled on their workers backstage, between things like not paying people and the Daffney situation.... A little off topic but does anyone else feel like the entire promotion lost a ton of steam that they never really regained when they rebranded them selves IMPACT WRESTLING rather then TNA? No. Because they never fully rebranded, they did a shitty half assed attempt at rebranding.

They should just spend the entire summer in viking funeral mode, do all the crazy stuff they wanted to do but would have made no sense (even by TNA standards).

A little off topic but does anyone else feel like the entire promotion lost a ton of steam that they never really regained when they rebranded them selves IMPACT WRESTLING rather then TNA? Below is a list of times TNA blew a lot steam, just off the top of my head. -When TNA never capitalized after the first two weeks of Sting coming in. -When TNA never went fully behind Christian as a top guy. -When TNA blew their wad with Kurt Angle. -When TNA never, never, never presented their product as an alternative to WWE, but rather a knockoff. -When TNA brought in mediocre former WWE guys one after the other, pushed them and saw them all fail or quit. -When TNA brought in Hulk f***ing Hogan and let him and Bischoff book the promotion as their vanity project and never promote it. -When TNA turned Jeff Hardy heel and enabled him while he would "disappear" during shows to do drugs before his matches. -When TNA let Hulk Hogan sabotage the main event babyface push of Bobby Roode. -When TNA screwed up the main-event babyface push of James Storm. -When TNA promoted themselves as "We Are Wrestling" and then had more talking segments. -When TNA brought up another stupid idea for Abyss to do. -When TNA scolded their diehard fans for chanting bullshit at a bullshit finish and called them "cast members", then started bringing in terrible plants. -When TNA let Hogan bring in all his cronies minus Brutus Beefcake. -When TNA kept bringing back Vince Russo and let him turn the undercard into a joke. And probably most importantly, TNA could never hold in steam because their advertising sucked. They did the bare minimum and hoped the internet would bring in crowds and failed every single time.
