If they'd gone that route, you know the anti-WWE/wrestling crowd would crucify the company for having that happen on National TV Kid with cancer attends WWE event, but you WON'T believe what happened next! (Click here)

I think something like that is more likely to make people hate the WWE more so than the heel doing the act.

I'm guessing it's more likely that Cena would be the one decimated for daring to "exploit cancer" and point the kid out... At least by the hysterically cynical portion of our fanbase, anyway. That's like me calling the other side "hysterically gullible". No need for the passive-aggression. OK, hysterical probably wasn't the best choice of words given most people take it to mean "really funny" and not "insanely over-the-top" like I was using it... Aggressively cynical or relentlessly cynical may be closer to the mark. It's like what the other poster who quoted you said... I'm noticing specific posters who are just so like that, it gets to a point where I'm like "Why are you still here when it makes you THIS angry?".

Since Cena ends up being the heel in all feuds, would this mean pro cancer crowd chants?

On another forum I frequent, someone posted something along the lines of "Owens should have turned to the kid and said 'I'm rooting for the cancer'", which in my opinion, is MUCH worse than tearing up the sign, and the cheapest in heel heat. Owens doesn't need cheap heat, he's good at what he does.

Im just sittin' here waitin for Owens to say that he's spent 15 years fighting for and remaining loyal to his wife while on the road, but Cena is divorced because hes an adulterer.

I wish Owens would have said that he thinks this girl is very courageous too and that he thinks she will beat cancer. But he should have added that it's not Cena or his merch that would help her beat it, it's by FIGHTING.

Given some of the embarrassingly gross bile I've seen some fans spew about Connor, I am kind of glad they didn't draw any more attention to this kid than they already did. Some fans are disgusting. And that's why we should listen to Bob Barker and have your pets spayed or neutered.

I take it you like Owens?
If you do then this should be the absolute last thing you'd want.
There'd be no way to book this other than Cena destroying him for commupence.

The idea of someone being a face because they hate kids (except for the ones they created) is just uncomfortably nihilistic to me...

Yeah I'm sure Mattel would be happy with that They seem happy enough selling Batman toys to kids. I think the Joker has done far worse than rip up a sick kid's sign.

I already said that it could be pre-arranged with the kid and his family. Like Dibiase kicking away that kid's basketball.

I disagree that "it wouldn't fit his character". So far Kevin Owens is almost completely a somewhat sanitized Kevin Steen. Here's a quick list of things I remember Kevin Steen doing: Practically killed his best friend El Generico for no reason Gave everyone the finger as he left following his 'loser leaves' match Tattooed 'EVIL' on his arm Wrote things like this: "I am the monster I am and I will never change. My name is Kevin Steen and I am the Antichrist of pro wrestling. I don't need to drink or do drugs to be who I am. I am here to beat the f*** out of people and create as much chaos, pain and mayhem as I can and that's always going to be my purpose."Spit on Jay Lethal's mother Package Piledrove Maria Kanellis So c'mon, you can tell me it would be in bad taste, but don't tell me you could never see a gentle soul like the Kevin Owens character doing it. His character is that he loves HIS child and HIS wife...and would kill yours if he felt like it. That's metal as f*** and I want to see that promo.

Now if he was "in on it" from the start, sure. Though if you wanna go that route, I'd rather it be someone holding a sign that they "drove 8 hours to see John Cena" or "saved a year's allowance" or something like that. Using cancer to make the point makes everyone involved come off as real pricks. I hated it enough when they used Paul Bearer for the Punk/Taker angle, regardless of whether he would've been comfortable with it. You look back at those promos and it still feels damn uncomfortable, and not in a "wow, CM Punk had his comeuppance coming at Mania" way but in a "I cannot f***ing believe everyone was OK with this" way.

I would have been shocked, but I wouldn't have minded if Owens had done something like that to be honest. I'd certainly rather him do that than stand there like a scared kid, shaking, and run away from a fight. One night after he legit beat Cena and he's made to look like a pussy!
I must admit, I didn't like the fact that Cena mentioned the kid two or three times. I know that guy will do just about anything for a cheap pop but exploiting a child with cancer seemed a bit much. I don't think I would have felt any more uncomfortable if Owens had made a tasteless comment, beat Cena up or even ripped the sign.

They could have done it this way.
1- The kid is in the front row.
2- Cena goes out to give him a hug and a high five
3- He takes the sign and brings it into the ring
4- He says something like "see, this is what's it's all about. Not your bitterness and jealousy", then hands the sign to Owen
5- Owen looks at it sadly, then looks at the kid (camera cuts to kid), then rips it up and tosses the pieces right in Cena's face.
6- Cena gets enraged and attacks him, they brawl all over the damn place, and require 20 security guys to seperate them.
