What's everyone's opinion on Cradle of Filth? Been on a huge binge of their music as of late and I find their masterpieces to be Dusk and Her Embrace, Cruelty and The Beast, and Midian. Cruelty and The Beast is an album that got me into their music and it's an album I listen to from beginning to end at least once a month. I've always enjoyed the story of Elizabeth Bathory and the album itself has a creepy, dark, melodic, and gothic atmosphere that truly fits the theme of the concept. One time I attempted to get a friend of mine into their music, he downloaded one of their songs, and listened to it. Afterwards I asked him what he thought and he said "Honestly? It sounds like one giant rape scene." I couldn't help but laugh because whenever I hear Dani Filth's screams I automatically think of that.

Not as big a fan as I once was, but they helped shape my love for extreme music. Midian is one of my all-time favorite albums. Their more recent albums are hit or miss, though their last one, "Hammer of the Witches" is probably the best they've sounded in ages.
That said, I can see why they aren't for everybody. Dani's vocals can be grating at times.

Anybody into these guys? Ordered all 3 of their albums a little over a month ago (from Earache) and barely received them today. It was worth the wait, though.
Killer stuff.

Dusk and Her Embrace is a solid piece of euro-trash black metal. everything after it's kinda meh. I do like some of their material from later albums though. I can't hate on a band who has Doug Bradley on speed dial to do all the spoken word on their albums. as for Dani's vocals, I don't really get what marks him as being particularly hilarious. he doesn't sound so different than most BM vocalists. maybe a little more skirlish than most but nothing out of the ordinary. it's not like he's Varg Vikernes or anything (or worse, Nattramn from Silencer).

I'm starting to really dig into Darkthrone's discography. I listened to Soulside Journey for the first time today and it's extremely good. The guitar tone on that album is outstanding.
More random metal thoughts:
- The new Gojira album is pretty good, definitely different than their last two. - Just rediscovered Bolt Thrower. ...For Victory still kicks ass. - I'm legit shocked we haven't heard (or at least been teased with) a new Metallica song by now. I know they played "Lords of Summer", but it won't surprise me if that one's not even on the album.

- The new Gojira album is pretty good, definitely different than their last two. Personally, I felt the album was a disappointment. It has some good moments, but it falls flat fairly quickly, especially towards the end. Hope this album was just a phase and they come back with something better in the future.

It's definitely a weird one. My biggest complaint about the album is that some of the songs feel too long/tend to drag.

I love what I've heard so far from the new Gojira, but then again I love Gojira so maybe I'm biased.

I don't know what the general consensus on post-metal is, but I've been loving the hell out of the Cult of Luna/Julie Christmas collaboration "Mariner." It's the first I've heard from either of them (I'd known of them but hadn't actually heard their stuff) but I'm extremely impressed.
