The threads reminiscing about WWECW and "The World's Largest Love Machine" had me thinking about this-and alternate history kind of scenario. Lashely seems to have come into his own in TNA in the last year or so, but I can recall well that his initial run in WWE was pretty thoroughly rejected by the IWC-in no small part because he received a completely artificial uber-push from the moment he debuted. Hence, my suggestion that the following scenario would have been a more, for lack of a better word, organic way of building Lashley up to a push to the ECW title. Goes as follows:
Instead of repackaging Viscera as Big Daddy V to help Matt Striker feud with the Boogeyman on WWECW, Bobby Lashley debuts as Striker's "hired muscle" character. He has a short into feud with Boogeyman and goes on to small programs with other "monster" stars like Kane, Mark Henry, Khali, and Big Show. He eventually torms a tag team with Mark Henry (ala Big Daddy V) and maybe they even get a short run with the tag titles. Eventually he turns face and abandons Striker and Henry, marking the start of his push to the ECW title.
I believe this scenario would have played to Lashley's obvious strengths at the time, while covering his weaknesses. He would have gotten several more months experience in development, perhaps further preparing him for the main roster. Off the bat he would have had a manager to cover of his obvious lack of mic skills at the time (bathturd!) He would have had a short partnership with a veteran he could learn from the ropes from, as well as a couple storylines to help establish him as a player on the roster. And all this would have rendered him that much more ready to be pushed as a top tier player by the time of his ECW title reign. I hope some might agree.
