How terribe was he?
He got to work with some of the top guys in the business and it really exposed him IMO, then he continued to look green as chicken puke and looked like he needed to be carried. f***sake, Carlito even carried him.
I will say though he was a much better performer when he returned years later and seemed to suit the babyface role a lot more.

Baffles me how he was barely on TV from 2009-2012 when he had actually improved.

WWE booking regarding new people was pretty bad at that time. It seemed like there was no middle ground between being hotshotted and being totally irrelevent. And if you failed at the first, then you had no choice but to be the second.
Honestly, it's still not great, but it's better than it was then.

I remember really liking his match with HBK at I think Unforgiven.

Didn't help that they debuted him a week before Wrestlemania 21, when didn't even have a match on the card.
Talk about killing someone's heat right away.

I remember when he returned in late 2006 from his suspension and they were hyping him up and the Master Lock back up again.
And he goes and loses to Super Crazy

He nearly killed Stevie Richards in that match with the Polish Hammer. Masters was so green and was possibly the most juiced up guy on the roster at that stage, so something like that was bound to happen.

I liked Chris Masters.
Then I met him in person and realized he's seriously one of the most likeable dudes in the industry. The guy is just nice in a completely sincere way.
Now I love Chris Masters... in that totally not sexual way.

He was bad in ring at first, but his entrance was goddamn awesome, with the posing in-time with the music.

I remember around late 05 that people who met him said the same thing, saying he was so nice that he should never have been a heel.

They should have waited a couple more years to bring him up from developmental.

Masters was so green and was possibly the most juiced up guy on the roster at that stage, so something like that was bound to happen. He also never used the Polish Hammer before and was told to go out and do it by the agent that match which is part of why it happened.

Always came across like a great guy irl, never heard/saw a bad word about him
Why didn't he get the Mason Ryan/Ezekiel midcard push in 2011??

RAW was really horrible at that time, with the exception of the Batista push. Masters came out with the most unoriginal gimmick they could come up with. It's like during that time the only gimmicks they had were redneck and narcissist / male model.

He was much better the first time round. He actually had a gimmick.
When they brought him back and gave him that horribly generic theme, I cringed a little bit. It's like he wasn't allowed to be good.
Sure he had improved in the ring and had good matches on Superstars but since when has that ever worked out for anybody? He needed to be The Masterpiece again.
tbh I hope they bring him back. But only if he's like what he was at the beginning.
