Apollo Crews was probably Uhaa's idea, not some name WWE picked out for him at random.
Because I'm pretty sure there was a story within the last year or two that wrestlers are allowed to pick their own new names for NXT.
Like Kevin Steen picked "Owens" as his last name after his son Owen. And Kenta picked "Hideo Itami" as a tribute to his heroes.

And Sami talked about how he kept trying to get "Sami Zayn" to be his name, but management kept rejecting it until Dusty convinced them to accept it. So it seems like NXT guys are told to make a list of possible names, and WWE eventually decides what on the list they like.

Can't wait to see the debuts of Sylvester Adrian and Mickey Lundgren. "MY NAME IS CLUBBER T!" - "Excellent name, Shelton Zeke!" "Hey, Teddy, before you go, why don't you dance on the entrance ramp anymore?"

I hope he gets an american flag themed intro. (Twitter page now exists) He should also get American themed entrance music. Something about how he is a real American or something.

All things considered....it's not a terrible name at all. Uhaa probably picked it himself as well, remember Hero picked Kassius Ohno after whittling it down with creative. The talent do get a choice in their name. I believe Owens and Bryan made similar comments, so I'm surprised at the current string of "Ugh, creative" responses. As has Finn Balor and Sami Zayne.

I forgot to quote it, but it said 2 indy guys from the last 10 years have kept their name. Obviously, CM Punk. Who is the other? Nevermind, Samoa Joe. It literally just came to me.
Moving on...
I feel like this thread is just made because it is obligatory in this situation. Apollo Crews is a much better name than Uhaa Nation. Only downside is losing the Uhaa chant, but Apollo is pretty chantable too. This guy will main event Wrestlemania. That is my prediction.

They input in picking their names. Get mad at him, not Vince.

I get that it's partially his real name, but really, what kind of name is Uhaa Nation? It sounds like something the guy would call his fanbase.
Apollo Creed is an awesome character, and Terry Crews is an awesome dude, therefore Apollo Crews is double the awesome in one package.

It's a unique name, instead of slapping 2 names together from other people/characters. It just seems incredibly lazy to me. If anything, keep Uhaa and give him a new last name, like they did with Kevin Owens.

Honestly I don't understand the hate for his name. Do we still really expect the WWE to let Indy superstars use their Indy names? It's happened twice in 10 years, it's not a common occurrence. Actually, yes, because WWE are no longer just hiring Indy wrestlers. They now hiring Indy wrestlers BECAUSE of heavy notoriety they've gained on the indies. Yeah, I get that, but it's still the WWE. They don't want Uhaa Nation, they want the talent of Uhaa Nation and they want to mold him into a star of their own accord. Joe was an exception because he was originally signed to be NXT only; Uhaa has been signed to be eventually brought up to the main roster. They want to turn him into a star, not coast off of the star power he's already gained.

If guys like Sami Zayn, Neville, Owens, and ofhers didn't have the notoriety that they did on the indies then NXT wouldn't have blown up the way it did
