Why does a known drug cheat get to decide to hand back his medal? He should have been stripped as soon as they were banned. It says everything about how tainted the medal was when Jobe doubled his career best and played all 22 games that year, both things that he never managed before or since. Shh the suspended Essendon players they are not cheats. They are victims and heroes led astray by those evil sports scientists.. but not James Hird he is a victim and hero too f***ing hell I cannot believe the way this whole thing went down. What a huge shit stain on this sport this whole thing has been. And because Hird is great mates with a lot of people in the sports media, they unjustifingly came off as victims being bullied by these anti doping bodies during the whole thing. Also alarming is that ex AFL president Andrew Demetriou warned Essendon they were being investigated. That says the head of the AFL was willing to turn a blind eye to this doping program and allow Essendon to cover it up and destroy evidence. And it's bullshit that he has escaped scrutiny for that, I remember what happened in 2012. I remember Essendon came flying out of the blocks that year. They looked unbeatable, but about half way through the season player after player got soft tissue injuries and the team ended up falling down the ladder and missing the finals. There were questions then, why were there all these same type of injuries happening at the same time? It got forgotten in the years that past. My guess the soft tissue injuries were a side effect of this shit the team was injected with. Again just a guess.

Breaking news: The AFL have awarded joint runner ups Sam Mitchell (then playing for Hawthorn) and Trent Cotchin (Richmond) the 2012 Brownlow Medal after that year's winner Jobe Watson handed back the medal for the supplements thing.
Matchell becomes the fifth Hawthorn player to be awarded the medal. The last being Shane Crawford in 1999. Funfact: 4 out the 5 Hawks medal winners have been ties with another player. Shane Crawford is the only Hawk to win the medal outright.
Cotchin meanwhile gets Richmond something meaningful to add to the trophy cabinet for first time in 30+ years. Their last Brownlow medalist was Ian Stewart in 1971. Cotchin is the fifth Tiger win the award in their history.
In other news young Giant Lachie Whitfield has been given a six month suspension for doping. While two officials have been suspended for a year for covering it up.

Quick news: Port Adelaide player Jarmen Impey is in trouble for getting into a hit and run. Thankfully no one was hurt (he crashed into parked unoccupied cars). But it's expected that Port Adelaide and the AFL and the law will come down in him. au.news.yahoo.com/a/33404833/port-adelaide-player-jarman-impey-licence-found-in-hit-and-run-car/#page1Other news AFL caller and personality James Brayshaw has left Channel 9. AFL journalist Craig Hutchison will take his place on The Footy Show. Brayshaw recently finished up as president of the North Melbourne football club. As far as I know he is still working at radio station Triple M. He could be on the move to Channel 7 or Foxtel.

Brayshaw is doing Triple M's first attempt at Test cricket commentary, so he's definitely still signed up there, at least for that.

Quick note:
The AFL Women's started tonight at Ikon Park (Princes Park). And you could say they underestimated the turnout. The ground is at capacity and they turning lots of people away. Wow they should of used Ethihad Stadium. For the record Ikon Park holds around 22,000 people,
Great turnout.

Just to update: The 2017 AFL/NRL seasons are coming up. Pre-Season has started but as I say every year I never gauge how a team is by preseason performance. It's just a few weeks of practice matches where coaches play young, new, and players coming back from long-term injuries. And experiment with new game plans. I know I have been critical for recent nothing to gain pre-seasons. It has it's place as warm up matches. But I don't think they should be broadcasted, and I'm certainly not paying Fox Sports to watch these nothing matches. So the lack of updates.
Been some news on the AFL side. Sam Day of the Suns season is already over after getting a dislocated hip in one of these matches. Joel Selwood has lost his driver's license for excessive speeding.
OK, I'm hoping to do a prediction post for the AFL season about a week before it starts. Like what we do in WWE current but with this season. Going to be a tough one.

I'm not expecting Cronulla to go back-to-back this year, unfortunately. The aging roster and the loss of Ennis and Barba from last season might be too much to overcome.
Expecting big things from Sydney and Penrith if they can keep their rosters injury-free, though, and Melbourne and North Queensland will be in the mix as always.

The 2017 NRL season begins in mere minutes as the defending champions Cronulla host Brisbane.

First up 26-18 loss for the defending champs as a late fightback falls just short against the Broncos.

So, how long until the Gold Coast teams belly up again? The Titans in the NRL are always kind of on the brink, but they seem to be stable at the moment. Signing Jarryd Hayne last year (the guy who was briefly in the NFL at the 49ers) helped draw some attention to them. I don't know how the Suns (AFL) are faring money-wise, but on the field they've really fallen behind fellow expansion team Western Sydney Giants. Giants made a deep run into the playoffs, Suns were near the bottom of the league.

OK Here are my predictions for the 2017 AFL Season and AFL related stuff:
- The Grand Final will played between GWS and Sydney.. with Sydney finally getting there monies with their recruits and winning the premiership .. yeah seems obvious. No one is really standing out
- winner of the Brownlow: Marcus Bontinpelli (Bulldogs)
- The Bulldogs meanwhile will have the Premiership hangover ... it won't be as bad as Hawthorn in 09 or the Crows in 99. They will make the 8 at least, but that could still lead to a repeat of 2016. But I think other teams will wise up.
- My team however Hawthorn,, well I think they are still a few years away from being dominant again. They gained some good recruits, but lost some experienced players, and the younger players are still developing. They will make the 8, but I'm seeing a repeat of last year.
- Players to retire this year: Luke Hodge, Gary Ablett (if he gets another big injury), Nick Reidwoldt, and Bob Murphy
- Coach most likely to be sacked before the end of the season: Ken Hinkley (Port)
- Team on the big rise: St Kilda
- Going Down: in combination with the coach sacking Port Adelaide
OK that's on field here are some off field stuff:
- Brain Taylor will last about a quarter of the season calling Friday night games. He will not click with the audience. Forcing Channel 7 to offer the job to James Brayshaw, Mark Howard or Andy Maher. And if they can't get them they will try and talk Dennis Cometti to come out of retirement. While Taylor will be moved to a matches played on Saturday or Sunday,
- This will be the AFL Footy Show on Channel 9 last year, well depending on Sam Newman's contract, if it's up 9 won't renew it and end the show with it, the Sunday version will remain. Well at least I hope that happens.
EDIT: I went back and edited this twice cause I listed two Geelong players that going to retire,,. Who have already retired.. FAIL

The Adelaide Crows Women's Side have won the inaugural AFL Women's Premiership after beating the Brisbane Lionesses by 5 points on the Gold Coast in the Grand Final. Congrats to them.
Oh and the AFL regular season started on Thursday

I can't believe the Giants sooking about Greene being called out by the umpires. He flat out punched Caleb Daniel in the face with a left hook, it wasn't an attempted spoil and he get let off the last two weeks for belting a dude and headbutting another one.

Sad news:
Collingwood legend, and one of the great AFL media personalities Lou Richards has passed away at the age of 94. Bit young to see that show he did with Jack Dyer and Bobby Davis. Do remember him appearing on the Sunday Footy Show a lot.
RIP

NSW leading at half-time 12-4. An away win here would be like gold.
