Hey gang,
So, after 11 years in New York and 7 years in the same apartment, I'm leaving the Windy Apple in about 30 days.
This is the first time I've moved in quite a few years, and probably the biggest move I've ever done.
Was wondering if anyone has any cross-country moving advice?
Also, track and field moving advice would be appreciated as well.

I moved from New Jersey to Los Angeles back in '96. I went through everything I owned and got rid of anything that I didn't absolutely HAVE to have. If I had time, I would have held a yard sale to get rid of it but I ended up dropping most of it off at Goodwill. I stacked everything I kept onto three shipping pallets and my work paid to ship it across the country. And that included furniture. I took it as an opportunity to rid myself of anything that didn't have a positive influence on my life. And once I got out here, I had a fresh start.

Moved from KC to Oakland about 7 years ago.
Pack light and get acquainted with the new area as fast as possible. Esp when it comes to apt and job hunting, knowing the neighborhoods and general makeup the area is key.
Also, get involved in the local community of whatever your interested in. It'll pay off dividends in more than just your hobby.
