So, you've probably seen my "wrestlers who smarks turned on" thread. What about the opposite? What wrestlers did smarks use to despise but now love?

Ryback and Rusev are the first ones that came into my head.

Ryback and Rusev are the first ones that came into my head. I know I turned the corner on both. I remember when Rusev had thst FCW picture surface before anyone knew who he was, I mean it was a pretty bad picture though. Ryback just feels so retro. I enjoy the jobber squashes. Wrestling DOES need those at times.

The Rock from way back when he originally debuted.
Santino Marella after his break-up with Maria.
Mark Henry when he first began the Hall of Pain.
Heath Slater once he began calling out legends.
Kofi Kingston after finding the power of positivity and becoming part of the New Day.

^I don't remember people out and out hating Rusev. I know people hated the endgame of Rusev being built up for the inevitable feud with Cena, and how Jack Swagger's face push was sacrificed to keep Rusev strong for it, but no real criticisms of Rusev as a performer.

I don't think he got hate, more an initial fear that he'd be another slow, useless, boring hoss stinking up tv.

If you're a big muscular guy debuting, be prepared for a rough first few months online.
Ryback has a really weird standing; usually good, occasionally plunging to rock bottom whenever Punk decides to say something bad about him again.

John Cena not necessarily a favorite but people give him credit now.

The only answer for me is New Day. Let's not forget how bad they were before turning heel and becoming gigantic goofballs.

Miz. Not many will give him credit for being one of the greatest heels and mic workers of the 2010s but atleast they'll admit that he's a damn good wrestler now. There was that whole phase of his career where he was just the "Real World guy" then he won our hearts with his amazing 2010 until people finally turned on him again once he ended up winning the WWE title and feuded with Jerry Lawler. The hate continued until he became Hollywood Miz and has slowly started winning peoples hearts since then...again.
Honestly I think most of the hate directed towards Miz nowadays is due to him being such a damn good heel and we'll never know what we got until its gone. The WWE won't be the same when Miz retires.

Rusev. Won everyone over with continuous good matches and is actually very funny.
Was not really able to show his ability doing the same 5 moves on jobbers for the first 5 months of his WWE career

Bo Dallas and New Day, both went with the irony of their gimmick and played up the heat.

New Day. I told people to have patience with them and they would click.

Rusev. Won everyone over with continuous good matches and is actually very funny. Was not really able to show his ability doing the same 5 moves on jobbers for the first 5 months of his WWE career Once he started having competitive matches, his selling and facial expressions starting coming to the forefront and surprised a lot of people. Titus O'Neil went from awkward "make it a win" guy to master of hot tags and guest commentary.
