On a 1998 Raw, Val Venis in Pennsylvania makes reference to "scoring more times than Joe Paterno", which is.....awkward at best, in hindsight.

At Backlash 1999 (April) When Rock and Stone Cold bust the stage set, JR refers to it as "The Walls of Jericho falling down!" ...Jericho didn't actually leave WCW until July but he's said the deal was done for a while before that, so intentional foreshadowing? Highly doubt it. The Walls of Jericho falling down is a reference to the bible. I think Jericho took it mostly because it was a Helloween album. Though he is also Christian and I think it played a part in it.

Man, Vader in 1998 WWF is a sad, anachronistic beast. It's so weird watching him in these mid-98 ppvs and just jobbing like mad.

On the 18 May 2000 Raw, Lilian Garcia announces "the winner and new World Wrestling Federation Hardcore champion.....one of Godfather's hoes!"
I spent five solid minutes laughing.

Just watched the Gimmick Battle Royal at Wrestelmania 17 as part of the new Bobby Heenan collection. Michael Hayes coming out in his Confederate Flag cape got me thinking about how much of a shit storm that would cause today.

One of the Raws on the way to Summerslam 1998, DX spend half the show teasing a "split", then take a ten minute promo to call each other "jack-offs" over and over again, then Chyna moons the crowd....okay, then?

You know, people praise the McMahon/Austin angle and their interactions to high heaven, and rightly so, but to my mind, re-watching these Raws from 1998, Vince was never a more compelling character than he was when he was playing off of Mick Foley. Something about those two just clicked perfectly.

I'm making my way through ECW at the moment
-Beulah was a f***ing ROCKET! -Bubba Dudley had the stuttering gimmick long before I thought he did. -Shane Douglas was tremendous through 1995 -The music edits, though understandable, are AWFUL!

I can't watch Hardcore TV on the Network. The edits just ruin it. Hard to soak in something when its not authentic.

97 wasn't the only time Nash imitated Arn Anderson. He did it again in early 99 on the Nitro after Superbrawl which also saw Hogan imitate Flair, Hall imitate Piper, Disco Inferno as Mean Gene and Vincent as Mongo.
The segment also showed off the charisma of David Flair....yeah ok no it didn't.

So, without getting too much into the actual perview of the character, because I think it violates the rules, was Dustin Runnels a heel or face in late 98, after dropping the Goldust gimmick? Because I can't figure out which he's supposed to be.

Dawn Marie was older than I thought during her SmackDown hotness peak.
She was actually 32 years old at the time of the SmackDown when she 'married' Al Wilson.

Man...the more 1998 Raws I watch...the more I can not STAND Degeneration X. A bunch of 30 year old men acting like caricatures of shitty stupid 14 year olds. I genuinely can't understand the appeal, in retrospect. A lot of the fans they appealed to were in their teens at the time, plus I imagine it may have felt like a revelation to some folks who had stuck through the cheesiness that was WWF in the mid-90s.

That, and you really didn't know what they were going to say or do. Yeah, the tank thing might have been a bit overblown, but if you didn't watch it the next week, it may be the week they try it again and actually make it in the arena? It's only now in hindsight do we realize they didn't really accomplish much aside from elaborate dick jokes and some decently amusing parodies.

Because I can't figure out which he's supposed to be. His moral gimmick and feud with Venis? I think he was a heel and turned face when becoming Goldusf again. Then again, there's a lot of blurry face/heel alignments around this time.

Pretty sure Johnny Fairplay of Survivor fame is sitting in the front row at Backlash 2016. Could be wrong though.

I forgot that Wade Barrett was the only heel that could get the crowd to cheer 100% for John Cena during their feud in 2010.
I also learned that you, me, we are unstoppable.
