For example, Bray Wyatt has been a success, where as Waylon Mercy which was a similar gimmick failed (althoygh Mercy could have gotten over) can you think of any other examples?

I'm certain there was something supernatural/horror inspired before the Undertaker that did not get over.

Becky Lynch pulls off the Steampunk look better than Viktor did, if that counts.

Evolution were the Horsemen done right. DX was the nWo done right. The NWO I might give you, but the Horsemen were just about perfect.

There was a Freddy, a Jason, and so forth and so on. I THINK there was an Undertaker there or in some indy before the WWF's version. (may be thinking of the tag team of the Undertakers in IWCCW, which Big Val Puccio was part of. They'd oddly enough do jobs at house shows for the WWF as "Double Trouble.") And let's not forget the score of Mummies that existed in wrestling. (the two most infamous, Prince Kharis and the Yeti, came after Undertaker, though)

NWO and Horsemen were very similar, actually, in that they never lost for good. That might be the one flaw alluded to here...and it was a flaw in NWA booking in general...the bad guys always came back and reclaimed the top spot/titles/etc. It took two of the Horsemen quitting the company to end them for a year before they started over again, though maybe not as unbeatable as the original timeline. Evolution I don't know about, but the Dangerous Alliance was the right way to book a "takeover" angle. They form, they dominate, faces beat them (in War Games), they start to fall apart slowly by the end of the year. And I am saying all this having loved the Horsemen (JCP versions), mind you.

So you're saying One Warrior Nation was a better gimmick?

Val Venis was a better version of that bell ringing tag team.

(the two most infamous, Prince Kharis and the Yeti, came after Undertaker, though) Memphis had an Undertaker before WWF, but he was just a manager type for a guy named the Zombie (no relation to the ECW one). Wore a mask similar to Sullivan's "Wizard" when Kebbin was managing Oz, but wore a suit.

Val just needed more references to "sweat hogs", I tellz ya.
Seth Rollins as the "Chosen One" surely trumps Drew McIntyre and Jeff Jarret.

The Horsemen from the 80s was perfect. No way Evolution was better. Evolution was better then the Paul Roma or Mongo era that I would give but the others I wouldn't ever.

I think that the Horsemen were better than Evolution, but that Evolution, with the Batista/Triple H feud, was a better payoff and conclusion, since, as has been mentioned, the Horsemen never really ended, they'd just kind of fade out and fade back in. Some iterations were also much better than others.

Funkasaurus was a lot more memorable than Flash Funk.
