Samoa Joe and it's not even a question. Dude was one of the original indie kings and was a big name in TNA. In fact he was a big factor in drawing in numbers of TNA'S two most bought PPV'S of Genesis 2006 and Lockdown 2008

I'm going for Asuka. I think an argument could be made that she's the best female in the world (I think it's Madison Eagles still mind) and it really is the first tine since they had Bull Nakano and Aja Kong that you can honestly say they've potentially the best womens wrestler on thier roster.

I think it's a tie between Joe and Askua. Signing the top Joshi wrestler in her prime was completly unexpected considering that WWE typically doesn't hire women from japan. As well as signing Joe the biggest free agent and former ROH/TNA world champion considering they typically don't like signing former TNA talent.

The biggest name pre-NXT absolutely has to be Joe (maybe Finn Balór, I'm not familiar enough with NJPW to really gauge that)
I know Asuka is a big Joshi name, but is she really as big as co-founder of the hottest act in Japan in recent years?

I think it has to go to Zayn in terms of long term value. Joe might have been the bigger surprise, but Zayn's in his prime and is now synonymous with the best of NXT.

Samoa Joe was the biggest draw, but he had been a declining name for years from how poorly TNA booked him, and wasn't really a true main event talent for TNA...well, at any time in the 2010s, to be honest.
Balor, on the other hand, signed the leader of the biggest stable in New Japan, and thus inarguably the biggest gaijin in Japan, in his absolute prime and at the peak of his name value for the number two promotion in the world. Screw "biggest NXT acquisition", you could make a strong argument Balor's the biggest signing WWE's made since the end of the Monday Night Wars.

Joe for now with Zayne second. Crews will be a future World Champion and be what they wanted Reigns to be. Haven't been impressed with Balor or Itami. Storm is cool but don't see them using him for much other than name value for NXT House Shows. I see nothing in Crowe. Asuka doesn't have the look of a diva so would be surprised if she makes it to the main roster.

Only a wild guess, but I only see advantages for both parties if he signs with WWE He's be a fool to walk away from his deal in New Japan, WWE will never be able to throw that kind of moolah at him. But because he is making such huge bank in Japan, he will probably never have to worry about money again for the rest of his life, so taking a comparative pay cut to go to NXT once his contract is up wouldn't be as big a deal for him. And if he could wrangle the kind if deal they initially offered Samoa Joe, I see no reason he wouldn't go for it; work NXT takings and network events to keep his name prominent and be able to keep his asking price on the indies high for it. But I have a feeling WWE woukd stipulate that he not work any shows fur ROH, which I'm not sure he woukd ever agree to. |

I say Hideo or Finn. Yeah, Joe was an indy king at one time, but TNA damaged the hell out of his reputation. KENTA and Devitt were gods in Japan, and they in no way needed WWE. Hell, they probably took a pay cut coming over.
