I reloaded an old save to play a different end-game path. As much as I enjoyed the game, I really think looking back it was lacking any emotional connection at all. {Spoiler}I had no qualms in shooting my son because he was an annoying, obnoxious douche, no problem in betraying the Railroad or any of the other bad choices. Compare to say, The Walking Dead which I completed last year where I felt an emotional connection to the characters. I chose choices that would keep them alive/keep them on my side rather than choices that seemed fun and felt actually sad when one of the characters died. Fallout was lacking that emotional connection imo. Maybe because the companion characters were mostly dull and the interactions quite minimal.

Today I found out that melee is actually a very efficient way to get out of being surrounded by feral ghouls. I decided to give it a try as at least 8 of them had cornered me and it quickly became evident that firearms weren't going to help (especially since they kept hitting me as I was reloading, thus stopping me and making me have to reload again, giving them a chance to hit me, stop me, rince, repeat). I drew the General Chao's Revenge and went to town. It was amazing! It dealt a surprisingly high amount of damage and on top of that, it tended to make the ghouls stagger and hit pretty much the whole group as they were right up to me when I started swinging. Plus it tends to slice limbs off with ease. So not only did it give me some breathing room, it allowed me to dispatch them far more quickly than if I'd used guns. ![](http://i.imgur.com/M6NZ3iH.jpg) It's not all good news though. As I loaded my game, I noticed a prompt telling me I failed to protect the Red Rocket Station (which was especially annoying considering I never saw one telling me it was being attacked) and when I checked the map on my pip-boy, it said the rocket station now has zero settlers. The raiders killed everyone. How did that even happened?! I put a GIANT WALL all around the settlement, two turrets and two heavily armed and armoured guards at the entrance, leaving only a tiny door through which to enter (precisely so the only way in would be where all the firepower is concentrated) AND I gave citizens some better weapons than freaking pipe guns just to be safe. How did raiders manage to massacre the whole town with that? How? Man, and I was so happy that one of my guards was a Ghoul. On an unrelated note, here's what happens when a Super Mutant Suicider has the bright idea to blow himself up right next to a car: ![](http://i.imgur.com/Pf2NVWi.jpg) The rest of his squad was killed instantly. And finally... PORTABLE CANNON YOUR ARGUMENT IS INVALID

So I purchased the game recently. I haven't progressed very far, but the visuals that I have seen have been outstanding.
I think I spent well over six hours in creating her (I'm damn near obsessive when it comes to CAP games), and I'm still likely to amend the character after I eventually reach Diamond City. Granted, that will more than likely be awhile from now, as I've decided to take things a bit easy after fruitlessly engaging a Super Mutant team whom I erroneously believed to be a group of Raiders.
(EDIT: Picture change, once again. My apologies.)

This is actually a mod in the game, and, well see for yourself:

I have now spent over 72 hours in the game and I still haven't made it to Diamond City. Granted, I'm the kind of player who obsessively explores everything I can in case there's some good stuff (and there usually is) and I also stubbornly insist on walking all the way to the nearest settlement rather than drop stuff when I'm overloaded (which is all the time), not to mention I also spent a lot of time building my settlements, so I've probably taken more time than most players but still. That gives you an idea of the amount of content in that game.

Granted, I'm the kind of player who obsessively explores everything I can in case there's some good stuff (and there usually is) I feel I'm in a similar boat. I'm trying to limit my adventuring (as I wish to avoid facing tougher enemies), but I just can't help but look around the next corner. (“Hmm, what's over there?” “ Who's over there?” “Oh man, am I finally going to find some sweet combat armor!?”) In fact, I'm actually interested in a journey through the Medford Memorial Hospital, despite the less than hospitable appearances of a Super Mutant squad and a Legendary Synth. If the scope of this game truly exceeds Skyrim, I can definitely see myself spending hours indulging in my own adventures before I ever return to the Main quest-line. EDIT: Also, does anyone else play in 3rd person? I know the game was probably designed with the alternative perspective in mind, but I just can't abandon TPS.

I play in third-person while outside and in first-person when inside buildings/caves/etc (as third-person is very impractical in cramped spaces). The third-person is actually really nice in this game, especially compared to Skyrim and Fallout 3 & New Vegas. I didn't even feel the need to install a mod for it this time.

I'm wandering the map trying to find cool stuff, found a nice early-game sniper rifle on that highway near Tenpines Bluffs, near the aircraft crash.

So i was just walking near a beach, pressing Q at each 2 seconds in case i spotted any mirelurk.
When i hear some scuttling sound behind me,i immediately think"motherf***er sneaked behind me"
So i turn around to kill the mirelurk....and there is a Mirelurk Queen just casually strolling behind me.
But now i can actually one two the queen and one shot Deathclaws(sneak shots) at hard more.

So I get a message that The Slog is getting attacked and fast travel to defend it.
The game drops me in the middle of A DOZEN SUPER MUTANT OVERLORDS.
At that point the game is just messing with you.

At that point the game is just messing with you. yeah the level scaling for those attacks is really uneven. sometimes you'll get like 10 overlords, sometimes it'll be like 2 brutes and 3 regular mutants. not sure who was in charge of that but it really needed more balance and consistency. not to mention there's a bug where sometimes you don't get alerted of an attack at all and don't find out about it 'till you check your settlement stats and see that everything's broken.

You ever get to Vault 108 in FO3? Bricks spell out a certain phrase associated with it. Oh, and I always travel a short distance away from a settlement and walk after having it drop me in the middle of a gang of Supermutants at Level 5. I didn't survive.

I saw on a youtube video that giving one of the many teddy bears to Dogmeat is a good thing to do.

I think attacks should stop once your total defense reaches a certain threshold (just as an example, if your total defense is at least 100 and is at least 5 times the total population + food + water) for a particular settlement. If you have 10 people at The Slog, who produce 20 food and 10 water, once your settlement defense hits 200, it should never be attacked by anything, period. I think that'd be very nice for fixing the problem with settlement defenses popping up in the middle of main quests.

On the topic of settlement attacks...
4 ROCKET LAUNCHERS? REALLY? For a place producing 2 food and 3 water. I love the management aspect of the game, but it's like the game is playing against you.
I can handle whatever whenever, but it's the damn false alarms that kill me. "Why is Abernathy farm at 0 water and 28 people?" (fast travel...all is normal!)

I gave up trying to defend Tenpines Bluff at all after it kept being attacked even when I had more defense than food and water total for that settlement.
