I don't think I ever been sick to death of the news of a college free agent before. When the gold standard is Tyler Bozak there isn't much going on. At least he was undrafted. Still I find it stupid you would want to be gone from the surging offensive minded Predators with a open spot for you since the playoffs this year to the Rangers on a decline to be closer to home when you don't have a NTC in your contract. Like there was that one college free agent who refused to play for Florida, signed with Calgary, was a bust who got traded back to Florida.

Vesey and NYR deserve each other. As you mentioned, Vesey could be in Nashville with the best offensive defense pairing in hockey, Forsberg, Johansen, Neal, etc. New York's got some speed, but that's about it. They're a falling star of a team, and Vesey probably overrates how much pull he should have. If the Rangers fans end up hating him and he ends up hating the franchise, I'll be oddly pleased.

Half the people who hyped it will forget in a month since it was rhe only news in a dead period and I bet the ones hyping it on hockey message boards are such a small percentage of hockey fans in general that it won't matter much in terms of pressure. Also what pressure the nyc hockey media? They barely have a media presence in the regular season. Its like the peoplw who talk about the Rangers being an atractive FA destination due to endorsements. I don't know where all these Ranger ads are as other then Lundqvist's watch ad I can't recall anything significatlnt locally

Jared Bednar in as head coach of the Avs. Seriously f*** the thunderdome division. Every team in that division improved but St. Louis and Chicago the two strongest teams.

And I can't see the Pacific being as poor this year as it was last year: I can see Anaheim and LA regressing and maybe even Vancouver, but Calgary should be a strong team this year, Arizona might be the annual shitty team that does well with good goaltending and high shooting percentage, and clearly at some point edmonton gots to improve.

So word is going around saying that since the Rangers added Vesey, the talks of them acquiring Shattenkirk have renewed. The names being thrown around the most are Rick Nash and Oscar Lindburg.

So, the KHL season started a few days ago. Kunlun Red Star, the latest team and the first from China, plays their inaugural game on September 1st against Amur Khabarovsk.

It's not going to happen, but if somehow Thomas DiPauli outplays Jimmy Vesey, I'd never stop laughing my ass off about it.

The Minnesota Wild will play Prince's "Let's go Crazy" after every home goal That is awesome. Makes me so annoyed that the only candidates we ever get for home-state goal songs around here are Springsteen or Bon Jovi. We did try using Bouncing Souls for one year with "Ole", but that's more of a Montreal thing, anyway.

Nah, but they're hot dookie. Mostly because they don't have much money. Lack the novelty of the Dragons in Beijing or the stability of the Admirals up in Vladivostok. They are the runts of the Pacific Rim.

Finally time to do my annual "Figure Out a Devils Away Game to Go on a Weekend Vacation To" schedule check.
Aaaaaaand SCORE, there's a Saturday game in Ottawa somewhere in there. Top priority!
Definitely want to get back to DC for a game, though, looks like Devs/Caps goes down during Christmas break, lots of fun around Verizon Center; pus a couple weekends in Pittsburgh, I've heard pretty good things about the game night experience there.
