F*** 3 on 3, and f*** shootouts. Having a shootout decide a game is like having a dunk contest decide a basketball game, it's a bullshit gimmick idea that waters down the game. The shootout is a decent compromise, though. There's no real risk of injury. It ends the game quickly after OT. It gives more closure than ties. If anything, it's exactly like PKs in soccer. Only the goalies actually have a decent shot at making a save. It's short, exciting, skill-on-skill as a last resort after OT. There's no real way to defend in 3-on-3. Guys can just stand in one spot and take one-timers in great scoring areas. I get why they do it, even tho I don't get why a tie is such a bad thing in a regular season game. I'd rather have two teams get 1 point for a tie then see a team get 1 point for f***ing losing. And I get that for the most part, people like the shootout. I've just personally been against it since before it was even being used in the NHL, it feels like a cheap way to decide a game. Feel the same about PK's deciding a soccer match too. Personally, I think if you wouldn't decide a playoff game with a shootout, then why use it at all? Probably my biggest pet peeve of the post-lockout era is the changes they made to overtime etc.

I'd honestly rather see my team lose in a shootout than see it end in a tie. I went to a Blues game a couple years ago against the Flyers where Ryan Miller stood on his head. 0-0 and we won in a shootout. But if it ends with neither team scoring or winning, it feels like a waste.

Finland bouncing back from the bad North America match. 0-0 after first period against Sweden, with Finland leading in scoring chances.

There's probably a lot more people who think like you then think like me on this issue, because let's be honest, hockey has grown significantly in the US since the 2005 rule changes. However, I will argue til the day I die that giving a point for losing in OT or SO is so f***ing lame. Oh? You lost? But you managed to make it 60 minutes before you lost ? Well, here's a point and a blue participation ribbon to go with it.

13:55 left in the first, and it's already a shambles.

Team USA looks ATROCIOUS. Not anything that wasn't to be expected, though. Tortarella is a not good hockey coach.

But he can't get with the times and can only coach teams tailor made for him right now. Also a team of grinders playing a grinding style is never going to win on the international scale unless you got a goalie playing like Hasek in his prime playing for you.

After the results of the Team Europe game, I expected nothing. Now, I hate this team.

Yeah, the idea that you're going to beat a team as skilled, as quick, as disciplined, and flat out as GOOD as Team Canada in international hockey with guys like David Backes and coaches like Tortarella is just doomed to fail. And I love Backes. But hits aren't gonna win the game. I thought it was funny that Melrose was still playing his BS cards in the 3rd. Talking about how the US was still hitting and it was going to get them back into the game and showing that they're still fighting. Only Levy seemed to get (and he did mention) that the only thing that was going to get them back into the game was shots on Price. It helps that the Olympics are two years away and guys like Gaudreau, Eichel, Matthews, and Jones will be able to take the place of some of our less skilled players. Also, Kane played like trash. I wonder if he was tanking it or maybe Tortarella just didn't play to his strengths. Because he is one of the only elite guys we had, and he looked worse than guys like Osh.

Unreal penalty at the end of regulation. If that isn't a penalty on Stralman, it's no call. How are you going to call a guy for getting checked and fallen on?

Amazing pass and MacKinnon dangles for 2 1/2 days, then roofs it. What a game.

North America have arguably been the bright spots of this tournament, yet could be eliminated tomorrow if Russia win. A lot of people will be cheering for Finland tomorrow.

Really pump for the regular season, I guess because my tickets came really got me pumped. Brought a 12 game package for The Blues and the Winter Classic tickets. Don't have the Winter Classic tickets in hand yet but they ship in Nov I believe it said.

Hockey is just a fun sport to watch. I'm shocked it hasn't caught on more in the US. And to see guys like Parayko and Fabbri get better.

I doubt Bishop or Schneider would have done much better with the dumb-dumbs playing in front of them.

There were a lot of critics for Quick's play. And while he may jot have had a great tournament, we had how many scoring chances? It reminds me of Blues postseasons before last year. People trying to say what? That if we had a guy who could have stood on his head that......we still would have lost? Canada is whooping us regardless and Europe shut us out. That's that.
