XB1 version just did around 40 K Who really didn't see this exclusive deal being a dumb idea in the first place A lot of people going to be of jobs because of this Part of the problem is they had the balls to launch against Fallout 4. If they wanted this to succeed on Xbox alone, it needed to be out in October. Once November rolled around, it had no chance.

Tomb Raider isn't a game series where people are going to buy a new system just to play the next game in that series. Tomb Raider isn't in the same league as a Nintendo series (like zelda or pokemon) Or final fantasy, where people are probably going to buy a new system, just for that game

Yeah, the problem had more to do with release date than the game itself. It'd probably have been fine had they released it any other time, but to intentionally go against the biggest releases of this generation thus far is like releasing your drama against the new Star Wars movie. You're not going to have a good opening.
The PC and PS4 launches will probably do better.

Releasing the game the same day as Fallout 4 was extremely dumb. Should've delayed it a bit or put it out early if possible. Hopefully it sells better as the holiday season gets on, and the UK numbers aren't indicative of the game's sales as a whole.
And yeah, pretty much the only big system sellers are Nintendo's evergreen games.

And yeah, pretty much the only big system sellers are Nintendo's evergreen games. Well those and maybe Halo, and I'm only even considering Halo as a possible one is because those games still sell several million copies, and I think the series is one of the best selling first-party exclusives that isn't a Nintendo property. Edit: Actually looking into it, and the only non-Nintendo first-party exclusive that has sold more than Halo is Gran Turismo. And considering how dedicated GT fans are, that's honestly not surprising. So yeah, Nintendo games, Halo, and GT are the only exclusive games that can realistically be called system sellers.

Halo 3 definitely fit that bill with the 360. I guess we'll see if 5 fits it with the Xbone.

It was released the same day as Fallout 4 and is exclusive to Microsoft at the moment so it's not very surprising. The PC and PS4 versions will sell a lot better. Ugh, I want this game so much.

Against Fallout 4 was bad, but it was bad news the weeks before or weeks after it as well. I think they're risking on this one having good legs and snagging some Christmas sales. And still have the PC and PS4 sales ahead to help out. Yeah I know this is trying to put some positive on a bad situation.
Currently playing and enjoying it a lot at the moment. I held off on Fallout 4 (bloody tough as that is) because Bethesda normally need a patch or two out first.

I have a friend who picked this game up, has said all the reviews are true... it improves upon the first game and it's completely awesome. However, he's the ONLY person on my list playing that instead of Fallout 4, at work.. I can barely walk down the hall without hearing someone talk about Sanctuary, Super Mutans or Feral Ghouls.
I do want both games, but I will definitely go for Fallout 4 first.
I do think Rise Of The Tomb Raider will do well once the Fallout luster starts to fall off, they just picked a terrible game to go up against.

Yeah... whomever decided to have it go up against Fallout 4 directly is an idiot.

Hopefully this stops the exclusive to one platform at first thing. Yeah I know it's probably more of a bad timing thing.

Halo 3 definitely fit that bill with the 360. I guess we'll see if 5 fits it with the Xbone. We may never know since MS refuses to share sales data now days and only reports "XBLA engagement" numbers. Unless they win a month handily I doubt they say a thing. Not only was it directly against Fallout, it was a few days after CoD Black Ops3, and a week before Battlefront. That game was put out to die. Also, without the whole "timed exclusive" the game probably doesn't happen at all. Square-Enix was let down by the sales numbers of the first game (and it sold incredibly well) and were courting money to get it made. It will almost definitely do better on PC and PS4 as the series is more associated with those platforms, and ya know, both have much larger install bases.

Yeah, just like Street Fighter 5 wasn't going to get made without teh Sony involvement... MS paid to have this game made because Square Enix saw the rebooted series as a failure... even though it sold really well... it just didn't sell AMAZINGLY.

The Tomb Raider game before it was really damn good. It as shame that it looks like this one is going to fail due to a awful marketing strategy. If no one is going to buy an Xbone for Halo 5, then no one is going to buy an Xbone for just one game until the price drops.

Hopefully this stops the exclusive to one platform at first thing. Yeah I know it's probably more of a bad timing thing. For what it's worth, even before the game was released, Microsoft did seem to imply they're going to refocus and just spend the money on first or second party games and that this might be the last deal of its kind. I wouldn't even really be shocked if it was released the way it was without them expecting much of it, sales-wise, and that they knew they kinda f***ed themselves on this deal.

I still think it'll end up selling fine in the end, the Christmas holiday sales will be where it's at for them and next year's PC & PS4 as said. It's just a shame this is like the second time in a row they're getting negative perception on sales. Yeah, just like Street Fighter 5 wasn't going to get made without teh Sony involvement... MS paid to have this game made because Square Enix saw the rebooted series as a failure... even though it sold really well... it just didn't sell AMAZINGLY. The stupid thing is that, in the end, it ended up the highest selling Tomb Raider of the entire series with 8.5 million copies sold. Square Enix just wanted the money now now NOW because of other big difficulties and losses they were having, and so bitched about it to high heaven when 2013 Tomb Raider didn't do 5 million in a day or something ridiculous.

The makers need to realise that the Tomb Raider isn't a COD, GTA, HALO, Final Fantasy, Assassins Creed or any other game franchise that are guaranteed to sell millions of units day one of release. Tomb Raider while a landmark title.. Has it ever had a massive fan base? Sure the first few games were popular and two crappy movies were made. And if there ever was a massive fan base they have been burnt by nearly a decade of crappy titles with the Tomb Raider name. And games like Uncharted (is there an Xbox equivalent that I'm neglecting to mention here?) came along and did the format better gameplay and story wise.
