I still think it'll end up selling fine in the end, the Christmas holiday sales will be where it's at for them and next year's PC & PS4 as said. It's just a shame this is like the second time in a row they're getting negative perception on sales. The stupid thing is that, in the end, it ended up the highest selling Tomb Raider of the entire series with 8.5 million copies sold. Square Enix just wanted the money now now NOW because of other big difficulties and losses they were having, and so bitched about it to high heaven when 2013 Tomb Raider didn't do 5 million in a day or something ridiculous. The makers need to realise that the Tomb Raider isn't a COD, GTA, HALO, Final Fantasy, Assassins Creed or any other game franchise that are guaranteed to sell millions of units day one of release. Tomb Raider while a landmark title.. Has it ever had a massive fan base? Sure the first few games were popular and two crappy movies were made. And if there ever was a massive fan base they have been burnt by nearly a decade of crappy titles with the Tomb Raider name. And games like Uncharted (is there an Xbox equivalent that I'm neglecting to mention here?) came along and did the format better gameplay and story wise. At this point they have been good again for a decade. Since Crystal D took over all the games have been at least good.

No, it's definitely not a Fallout, Halo or GTA. That's very rare air. It's certainly one in the Resident Evil, Assassin's Creed and Uncharted range though. The last Tomb Raider shifted 8.5 million copies, a big uptick in sales figures from the previous editions and with very good reviews to match. While those previous games didn't sell as well, if we're talking just quality then I'd firmly vouch for both Legend and Anniversary (Underworld I'm a bit more lukewarm on despite some high points). I don't agree with the perception of a decade of crappy titles, nor that the fanbase is burnt. I'd rather give credit to what a beast Fallout 4 is, a beast I'm gonna be happily joining in with shortly myself!

^^ Tomb Raider does have a large fanbase but as it has a long history with the Playstation and PCs there's a good chance many of them don't own a XB1. Even many of those that do own a XB1 probably went for FO4 instead.
This is in the UK too where while behind the XB1 still sells respectable numbers, sales in the much of mainland Europe must be even worse.

As one of those who will be buying RotTR long before I ever buy Fallout 4 (if I ever do)... I'm not surprised one bit. Fallout was always going to massively impact any other title's sales, regardless of quality.

November this year had been built around the release of Fallout 4 and Star Wars:Battlefront I'd be surprised if any other game sells well at this time.

I'd think even Battlefront would get hit solidly, but they have the advantage of a little indie movie coming out by that JJ guy to whip things up.

Yeah for ever 100 ads / hype I've seen for Fallout and Battlefront I think I might have seen 1 ad for Tomb Raider. I didn't even know it was coming out in November until like... a week before it did.

In the UK Tomb Raider has been pushed pretty heavily in TV adverts, I can't remember seeing many for the other two. Admittedly I try to avoid adverts so I may not be the best judge of that.

Having the game be an exclusive and out on the same day as Fallout 4 was dumb. A perfect example of picking the absolute worst time to release your game.

Microsoft already paid them, and they'll end up selling much more on the PS4 and PC, probably, when those versions are out.

I think the sales will be sluggish at first if it launches on those platforms with the same amount of content as the X1 version had at launch, but costs the same $60, only a year later. I'm seeing a lot of people without a X1, but with a PS4 or PC strong enough to run the game, wanting either a price drop at launch(ie launch at $40 if it only contains the same base content at launch), or they want it to have all the DLC the X1 version will be getting in the gap between launches included for free. If neither is met it could also have a lukewarm launch on those platforms until it goes down in price or something.
