Another day, another roundtable discussion. Today's topic: EPISODE 100: Slice of LifeFor the 100th episode of Friendship is Magic, it was decided to move the focus away from any member of the Mane 6 and showcase the "background ponies"...giving them personalities, voices, and in the case of one pony, something we never expected in the form of being a spy. So, now that time has past, the dust settled and such...talk about this one. Loved the Dudes Carpet Cutie Mark The MLP Holiday Special is out now. Also bought the third Back to Future book. Seriously...Christmas Vacation much?

Slice of Life was a fun episode that marked the return of a speaking role for my lovely Lily, gave Derpy Hooves speaking time again and gave some BG ponies completely new canons (Sparkler being the No. 1 organizer in Ponyville before Twilight, Special Agent Sweetie Drops etc.). So all in all, it was a fun entertaining episode.

What I liked about what I bolded there is the fact that they sorta reference that again later on, when we get to "The Mane Attraction": Good on you, Amethyst Star.

The MLP Holiday Special is out now. Also bought the third Back to Future book. Seriously...Christmas Vacation much? Any Spike centric episode would get an automatic 10 out of 10 from me if he ever delivered a Clark Griswold styled rant near the end of it. "Hallelujah! Holy Shit! Where's the sapphires?"

Hoping to see some of these fleshed-out personalities get involved in Season 6 episodes.

Too bad we don't have enough people to RP again. Yeah, is a shame. Eh, maybe one of these days some new blood will come into these threads.

Slice of Life episode was just incredible to see. Amazing to witness the background ponies get speaking roles, Princess Celestia and Luna actually behaving like sisters, Bon Bon being a Secret Agent, Dr. Whooves being an obvious parody, etc. It certainly was a love letter to the fans, and we are happy to have read it.

Slice of Life was easily my favorite episode of the season. I loved how they fleshed out the personalities of many of the background characters while still mostly staying true to the ones created by the fans. The references were great, the character interactions were wonderful, Derpy had a prominent role, and my girl Allie Way even had a cameo. I really hope they do another episode like this soon.

G'morning mites They need a Eunos special episode. It would kick all kinds of arse and not offensive at all. You only have yourself to blame if you get upset Pony on down.

Couldn't be any worse than episode of Family Guy or Teen Titans go, at least... Man, it's only been like what? 2 weeks since the finale and I'm already sick of waiting.

Morning all. Gonna be back to the grind soon for me, but first, new roundtable (and this may be an interesting one). VILLAIN REDEMPTIONS!Since the debut episodes of the show, on average more villains have been redeemed than have been killed or imprisoned in some way. This season added 3 more to the ones we already had via Diamond Tiara, Gilda and perhaps most controversial of all, Starlight Glimmer. With a show title like "Friendship is Magic", I feel that redeeming villains is more likely to happen than any other way of defeating them, but I would like the thoughts of everyone here on the matter.

Luna's redemption was expected and she's opened new possibilities for stories within the show - between her acknowledging her past and still trying to fit in with the present. I don't think Trixie nor Discord are FULLY redeemed. Discord still pushes limits in the name of "Learning about Friendship" because of his actual nature as a creature of chaos. Trixie's "apology" and "Request" never sounded all that sincere to me so I'll leave that one open until her next appearance. Sunset Shimmer's redemption only bothers me because she is portrayed as a student of Twilight's. Twilight herself has only been in the friendship business (depending on canon/headcanon) j3-5 years of her life (after being mostly a bookworm before that) and has even shown she's STILL not an expert on the subject. Sunset has thankfully learned quite a bit on her own and couldn't just call the perfect pretty purple princess of miracles to EqGville to solve a problem she should have been trying on her own in the first place. Gilda's a weird case. Griffonstone gave us some context to why she is the way she is. She was put in a life or death situation to learn that friends are more important than even history. Hers might not stay with her if she plans to remain living there. Diamond Tiara's came a few episodes too soon - I would love to have seen bully DT when the CMC got their cutie marks and what she would have to say then. Starlight Glimmer should NOT have been redemmed as quickly as she was. She's a great Villainess(sp) that could match an alicorn spell for spell and actually possesses magical acumen on par with Twilight and could have been used to further test Twilight's patience, friendship skills and MAGIC skills (using "Friendship" and "Magic" separately in this particular case) and a lot more adventures could be made from this. At the end of the day, the show's message is that friendship can fix a lot of things - but at times it's portrayed as "A Wizard Alicorn did it" and nothing to really show how it works in the real world. Yes, this is a world of multicolored ponies, but the writing is "Smart" enough to push a little closer to what the real world does in these cases.
