Watched a li'l SMW and I'll be darned, it's the episode right before the 4-hour tape I own!
(Feb 14 1994 was glitching out, so I skipped to the next one.)
Blood on syndicated TV. Ricky Morton getting the piss beat out of him.
This is what we older folks call great stuff.

The Mid-South format - fifteen minutes of talking, thirty minutes of wrestling - takes a bit of getting used to. The overall show, however, is great. I never realized how the much modern promotions, especially ROH and NXT, borrow from Watts and company.

Could have said the same to him about bringing up SMW back when he was booking ROH, and showing fans what a show with a pulse looked like.

I have heard that mentioned many times how Mid-South was very innovative and ahead of it's time. Watts also seemed to be last stop for a lot talent to get polished before going to WWF, Ted Dibiase, Junkyard Dog and Jake Roberts come to mind.

If you keep yourself in mind of the time period, Mid-South's production values are very slick for that time, and yeah, the shows just flow very well. Mid-South has always been one of my "old school" blind spots, I'd never seen much of it, but this stuff is great.

SMW must be a pain in the ass to edit since they used real music for each wrestlers All of the territories are going to be like that. Mid-South, AWA, World Class, etc. all had real songs as the entrances for everyone. Even WWF only started phasing them out in '85-86.

So how soon til "Strange Kentucky People" shows up unannounced? If it were a regular network or programming block a la Adult Swim I would quietly put it in the middle of the night like how "Too Many Cooks" was...

The day Strange Kentucky People finally pops up is the day we can shut down the internet, as it will have resolved it's inevitable purpose to distribute that to as many people as possible.

The complete burial of the Bladerunners after their match against Teddy & Doc was odd seeing Sting stayed with the company.

The complete burial of the Bladerunners after their match against Teddy & Doc was odd seeing Sting stayed with the company. I think that was Watts hedging his bets. Hellwig bolted and Sting was waffling on whether or not to join him. I don't think Watts expected Sting to *not* flee as well and was fairly surprised he wanted to stay. They weren't very well-liked in the lockerroom at the time, either (though I can't remember where the Dick Slater incident falls with this chronologically) and Sting basically started all over, more or less the right way this time.

Thank you kind sir for the info.I hope that burial doesn't hurt Sting's career cause I see big things for this refreshing youngster.

They are finally putting that vast library to good use. Now all we need is some AWA, Georgia and Florida shows up and you pretty much get lost in the 1980s for a good long time. I would punch a baby for peak period AWA. So many huge stars went through there in their formative years.

What MSW shows were added from what dates? As far as the AWA goes, am I the only one who thinks their show circa 1986-88 some weeks was the best wrestling show on TV? Gagne had no concept of building to anything at that point so he had no qualms about having The Midnight Rockers vs. Rose/Somers in a bloody brawl, or a 1 hour Hennig/Bockwinkel match, etc. Some of the Memphis tapings I saw on ESPN Classic were gleefully weird and funny. I will say that quite a bit of 1987 was dull though. I haven't seen a ton of earlier AWA though.
It's time for more SMW as well. I practically devoured all of that the minute it was listed since I heard about it back in the day but we only got USWA here and not SMW.

I would punch a baby for peak period AWA. So many huge stars went through there in their formative years. The problem is a guy whose name rhymes with Bulk Logan is still kinda on the outs. As long as Hulk is persona non grata, nothing concerning him is getting added. That includes early 80s AWA since Hulk/Bockwinkle was THE feud in the AWA.
