Marvel has released an official synopsis for the final Netflix series before we get to The Defenders. "Returning to New York City after being missing for years, Daniel Rand fights against the criminal element corrupting New York City with his incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist."
They also announced a showrunner, Scott Buck. He was the showrunner on the final 4 seasons of Dexter. He's done work on the HBO show Six Feet Under.
So, looks like they're finally making some progress. No word yet on casting or a production start date. I figure we'll start getting info on that soon. I read all this info on screenrant.com

I'm gonna have a hard time not picturing DAnny as a hippy thanks to Ultimate Spider-Man

I'm pretty stoked for this although I'm a bit leery about the showrunner for the last couple seasons of Dexter being in charge. That show was not great in it's last couple years.

If Danny isn't played by either Scott Adkins or Ray Park then I is dissapointed.

So, is every Marvel show on Netflix taking place in New York? All of the comics do, why not the shows? Lol

So, is every Marvel show on Netflix taking place in New York? They're street-level heroes who aren't billionaires, connected to The Avengers or SHIELD, and are going to team up for The Defenders. If Daredevil was in New York, Jessica Jones was in New Orleans, Luke Cage in Seattle, and Iron Fist in Las Vegas it would make things unnecessarily convoluted for the team-up.

I keep seeing people throwing Aaron Paul out as their pick for Danny, that or people calling for a race swap to Asian because apparently only Asians should do martial arts well.
I'm not keen on either of those suggestions.

Never read Iron Fist. Who is his villain? Anyone as awesome as Fisk and Kilgrave?

I'm not keen on either of those suggestions. they're not race-swapping him. that was a petition some people started until it was pointed out to them that the idea that the martial arts guy had to be asian was in itself incredibly racist.

I wouldn't mind Aaron Paul as Iron Fist. I've always thought he was a pretty good actor. Landing a role like this would be good for his career at this point. He hasn't done much since the end of Breaking Bad and he could really use a role in a successful show/movie. The longer he goes without one the more likely it doesn't come his way and he'll forever be Jesse Pinkman. He's too good to have that happen. I hope he gets this role. I don't know if he's had talks with Marvel or anything but now that this thread has put that out in the ether, I hope it happens.

Yeah, the whole "from quite a bit further away" from China made me think she'd show up on Iron Fist. Though I suppose the Hand could also show up... but I'd think that might show up more on Daredevil season 2 or the Defenders in general.

I'm not keen on either of those suggestions. Ryan Phillipe confirmed several months back that he'd talked to Marvel about "something". Given the fact that he's a legitimate black belt, I'm still inclined to think it's for Iron Fist.

Now, he's 41 and after not aging for a good decade and half suddenly looks pretty much his age. I could see him in it for sure, but I'd say he is too old now to be Danny. A year ago, Marvel met with Zac Efron, I'd say he was more likely due to his age, even if not his actual martial ability.

I would legitimately enjoy Efron in the role, but his film career is still on an upswing, so I'm not sure if they'd be able to lock him into a Netflix series.
