ROH Final Battle 2015
Friday, December 18th at 8:30p E.
Live on PPV from the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, PA
ROH World Championship Match
"The Greatest First Generation Wrestler" Jay Lethal w/Truth Martini
defends against
"The Phenomenal" AJ Styles
The big question mark going into this match is the health of AJ Styles. Styles missed several ROH events and was pulled from the NJPW G1 Tag League after two matches because of a herniated disk in his back but as of now is still scheduled for the biggest match of his ROH career. Jay Lethal is in a foul mood after Roderick Strong managed to steal his ROH TV Championship but he made it clear that his focus is on defending the ROH World Championship against the man Lethal at one time looked up to and considered the best wrestler in the world. Lethal is looking to prove to the world that AJ no longer holds that distinction and there is no one better than Jay Lethal.
ROH World Television Championship
Bobby Fish challenges Roderick Strong
Time limit draw. Outside interference. One more chance. One more chance is all Roderick Strong wanted. He knew he had the number of ROH Undisputed Champion Jay Lethal but would he get that chance? ROH Matchmaker Nigel McGuinness declared that after two matches for the World Championship, Roddy had to go to the back of the line but the number one contender slot for the Television Championship was now his! Roddy made the most of this opportunity and made Jay Lethal tap to the Stronghold to become the World Television Champion! Roddy then declared his intention to "take on the world"! Bobby Fish is no stranger to holding gold as one half of current IWGP Jr. Tag Champion and multi-time ROH World Tag Team Champions reDRagon but singles gold has eluded him. At All Star Extravaganza Fish lost a controversial TV Title match to Lethal and has been looking for his "one more chance" and at Final Battle, he will get it.
ROH WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP
The Kingdom (Matt Taven & Michael Bennett w/Maria) face the challenge of War Machine (Ray Rowe & "WarBeard" Hanson)
On ROH TV prior to All Star Extravaganza War Machine defeated the Kingdom before heading to Japan to battle Killer Elite Squad (Davey Boy Smith Jr. and Lance Archer). At All Star Extravaganza The Kingdom stole the win from the Young Buck and World Tag Team Championship from the Addiction! Since that time, getting these two in the same place at the same time has been difficult. The Kingdom successfully defended their Tag Team Championships before War Machine made it known they wanted a shot at the team they beat. Nigel McGuinness made the match for Final Battle! Since then Kingdom went on the World Tag League in Japan while War Machine has been picking up wins in ROH. Now the time has come for these two teams to face off for the grandest prize in tag team wrestling.
Grudge Match
Kyle O'Riley vs. Adam Cole
Friendship and betrayal, it is a tale as old as time. At All Star Extravaganza, Kyle O'Riley looked to be a few seconds away from achieving his dream of winning the ROH World Championship. He saw his friends, brothers, Bobby Fish and Adam Cole take out the House of Truth and as he and Cole looked to take down Jay Lethal, Adam Cole laid out his "friend" and Lethal was able to leave with his ROH World Championship. O'Riley was understandably furious, he and Cole were as close as brothers, getting their start in ROH together as FutureShock. FutureShock. Maybe we all forgot but Adam Cole didn't. He never forgot the split, Kyle O'Riley running to the embrace of Davey Richards, Kyle O'Riley refusing to shake his hand and Kyle O'Riley stating he did not respect Adam Cole. Despite achieving nearly everything possible in ROH, Cole never forgot that disrespect. As Adam Cole sat on the shelf for 6 months with injury, he saw Kyle making his way up the ladder, he saw Kyle go to Japan and he saw Kyle headed for the ROH World Title, a title Cole feels is his, saw him be embraced by ROH and the fans, and he knew what he must do. In San Antonio, Adam Cole showed Kyle that same disrespect he felt all those years ago and has stated his mission isn't just to keep O'Riley from the title but to drive him from ROH once and for all.
"reborn" Matt Sydal, ACH and Alex Shelley
vs.
The KRD ("Heavy Metal Rebel" Frankie Kazarian, "Almighty" Christopher Daniels and Chris Sabin)
At the start of year we saw a mystery group interfering in ROH matches, wearing red masks, and later identified themselves as the Knights of the Rising Dawn and they promised change. After months of this we got to an ROH on Sinclair TV Tapings where the Addiction (Daniels and Kazarian) challenged reDRagon for the ROH Tag Titles. As the matched reached its conclusion, the referee went down and a KRD member hit the ring and cost reDRagon the Tag Team Titles. Post match, reDRagon through the masked man in the ring where he was surrounded by Addiction and reDRagon and revealed to be none other than Chris Sabin! As reDRagon and the crowd were stunned, Daniels and Kazarian struck, joining Sabin in a beat down of the now former tag champs. This change in attitude served Addiction well as they carried the ROH Tag Titles for several months until that red mask came back to haunt them. At All Star Extravaganza Addiction defended their Tag Team Titles again Kingdom (Taven and Bennett) and the Young Bucks, and as the match neared the end, a man in the KRD garb appeared and shocked us all by laying out Daniels and allowing Kingdom to win the titles. Some believed this man to be Chris Sabin as he would pop up when Sabin wasn't around but after several incidents, Sabin called out the mystery man who was revealed to be his former partner Alex Shelley! Now at Final Battle these men will finally get their hands on each other as Shelley teams with "reborn" Matt Sydal and ACH.
ROH WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP NUMBER ONE CONTENDERS MATCH
All Night Express (Kenny King and Rhett Titus)
vs
The Briscoe Brothers (Jay and Mark "Chicken" Briscoe)
vs.
Young Bucks (Matt and Nick Jackson)
Never say never in Ring of Honor. At All Star Extravaganza, Kenny King returned to ROH after a leaving under not so great circumstances the night after winning the Tag Team Championship and to partner up once again with Rhett Titus as the All Night Express (ANX). That night they not only answered the call of the most decorated team in ROH history, the Briscoe Brothers but defeated them! Kenny and Rhett have made it clear, they want to win back the titles they never lost. Standing in their way however are those same Briscoes, who have made it clear they want the titles they've held more than anyone else back. Finally there are the Young Bucks who are looking to take these four men to a little get together they like to call the Superkick Party! Back at All Star Extravaganza they had just hit a Indytaker on Daniels and looked to win the ROH Tag Team Titles before Taven and Bennett stole the match. All three teams have a claim to the Tag Team Championship shot, who walks away from Philly with the shot?
"Unbreakable" Michael Elgin vs. Moose w/Stokely Hathaway
Michael Elgin in 2015 is a story of redemption. At the start of the year no man was more hated by ROH and the fans. His volatile 2014 turning him on ROH and ROH on him. As 2015 wore on, Elgin achieved his dream of working in Japan and while there was christened #BigMike. There he wowed the NJPW crowds and execs with his power and athleticism while wrestling in the G1 Climax and just finishing up the World Tag League as the partner of NJPW Ace, Hiroshi Tanahashi. Following a victory in Survival of the Fittest, #BigMike has a date with the ROH World Champion Jan. 4th in the Tokyo Dome at New Japan's premier event, WrestleKingdom! A loss at Final Battle could put a damper on those plans. Moose has been the break out star of ROH since signing with the company at Best in the World 2014. Size, speed, power, charisma and a kick ass theme have the ROH audience fist pumping when he makes his way to the ring. After a near year long undefeated streak broken by the betrayal of one of Veda Scott, Moose has gotten his revenge and is looking to get back on the title track. He and Elgin have been locked in a game of one-upmanship: feats of strength, speed of victory (fastest in ROH history) and agility have led to these two locking horns to decide the who is the best man.
"Pro Wrestling's Last Real Man" Silas Young
vs.
"Party Peacock" Dalton Castle
Boys to men. Disgusted by what he saw as the ruining of professional wrestling by Dalton Castle, Silas Young made it his mission to gain control of the Boys and turn them into real men. In a battle at All Star Extravaganza that saw massive miscommunication between Dalton and his Boys, Silas won control leaving Dalton with a broken spirit and a broken heart. In the weeks that have followed we've seen Young partner up with the Beer City Bruiser to try and teach these boys how to be real men; digging holes, changing tires, standing up to piss, and beating up those weaker than you (mainly through them taking the beatings), the boys did it all. Dalton on the other hand has shed tears and gained L's as he just is not the same without his Boys. There seemed to be hope a two weeks ago as the Boys ran to the help of Dalton as he stared down the Kingdom, only for Silas to demand they leave and Nigel to enforce the stipulation. Then it seemed to come to an end, a heartbreaking end, as Dalton confronted Silas and made his intentions of defeating Silas and bringing the Boys home, the Boys stood on the apron only to turn their backs on Dalton. Now a crestfallen Peacock will do battle with a man emboldened by his successes. Can the Party Peacock find his groove or will Pro Wrestling's Last Real Man end the party for good?
YOUTUBE EXCLUSIVE MATCH
Brutal Bob Evans vs. Cheeseburger
Bob Evans is an asshole and his destruction of Brutal Burgers and attempted amputation of Cheeseburger's hand is his masterpiece. Cheeseburger is the favorite wrestling legend Jushin "Thunder" Liger, who taught him Shotei (Palm Strike). These two have waged war that looked to leave both men with shortened careers. Will hands be amputated? Probably not but with Brutal Bob you just don't know.
