Now I'm all for constructive debates and exposing myself to opposing opinions, it's healthy. But unless it's an article that has only two or three replies that are just pretty much "wow, such-and-such looks really cool!", I almost never read comment sections on online articles or whatever, and certainly not any YouTube commentary. In fact, when I scroll down YouTube pages to look at suggested videos, I've gradually trained my eye to avoid glancing to my left, so I don't come across something that makes my brain explode. I'd like to look at offers for other Run The Jewels videos without hearing your hairbrained political/conspiracies or how superior you think music was in the past (which, as we all know, has never been expressed by prior generations of music fans anywhere ever in the history of the world), thankyouberrymuch.
So I'm not trying to pass judgments on anyone, I'm genuinely curious. If you read the comments, what possesses you to do so? Because in the words of Rihanna, don't you knoooow, I've been burned I've been burned I've been burned....

Occasionally I like to read comments sections on the Daily Mail site, just to see what kind of hideous behaviour the commentators will defend.
Today I saw a story about a cop in America who was convicted of multiple rapes. One commentator said something like "this guy is a disgrace"
The comment gained about 60 likes.....but got about 574 dislikes
I just shook my head and thought "yep, still the same old Daily Mail" then browsed other sites.

Not anymore. I fell for it in the past and there are some real assholes out there that say things for shock and I would find myself genuinely upset over some loose lipped stranger that I'd never meet and if I had just avoided that section, I wouldn't know the jerk even existed.
I want life to be as simple and peaceful as possible.

Maybe I'm being sadistic here but sometimes I enjoy watching a bit of Internet drama from a safe distance.
Or love watching people make morons of themselves that in a way it makes me feel better about myself.

I'd sooner read the comments before watching HOME again, what a stinker!
Actually, I think the comments have a lot in common with Home.
Both are ugly representations of laziness and our human failings. That which we'd like to leave behind as we strive toward better things. But we can't always have better things. You can't have How to Train Your Dragon 2 every time out. How can you have your pudding if you don't eat your meat? But Home wants more of your time and money than the comments but also has better music.

Morbid curiosity, which I need to curtail because it affects my mood seeing so many terrible things. And that's not a good thing when you're dealing with anxiety and depressive disorders. Maybe ignorance is bliss sometimes.

Quit tucking YouTube comments. They show you where we're really at.
They stink, but, you'll get an occasional good one/someone you can cyber-connect with/etc. You just have to accept there might be a retard. So what? Their opinion is just as valid as yours.

As good as Home's music was (I thought the film was mediocre, nowhere near the caliber of Inside Out or even the less ambitious Good Dinosaur, but still better than The Nut Job), Fifty Shades had an even better soundtrack- and the quality of the actual movie is where I'd rank most YouTube comments at.
It was no coincidence that its most entertaining scene had Theophilus London playing in the background.

YouTube isn't as bad about it anymore. Its only anything political or religious/anti-religious that attracts the morons and trolls. Except for maybe pop videos like Justin Bieber's stuff, I don't really encounter that much aggression.

The smaller guys don't really have issues (or much of one) with bad comments, but the bigger ones? No matter who it is... yeah.

Don't watch much of the gaming channels, as I only just use the walkthroughs, but I imagine that PewDiePie and the other big YouTube gamers get attention from their detractors as well as trolls.

One of two reasons:
I live in a small town so it is easy to get more info on things from the comment section on various sites.
or
For the rest it is usually me getting to the end of the article or page content I came for and catching the first comment by mistake and falling down the rabbit hole of stupidity.

I have a firefox addon that disables comments.
That should tell you how I feel about them...

I saw the term "morbid curiosity" used earlier in the thread, and it sums it up for me too. It just intrigues me to see how videos featuring innocent and trivial subject can provoke such fury and rage in the comments.
It kind of depresses me to watch it occur in sports videos though. I find it pathetic to read adults arguing like children about whose team is better.
