It doesn't bother me that some people aren't fans of Star Wars. It bothers me that some of those anti-Star Wars people think they're better than those who enjoy the films. The ones who are all "I'm not giving into the hype like all the other sheep."

I can understand being suffocated by the hype. It's ridiculous how saturated the market is and how gross some of the ad campaigns are. But really the only thing I'm worried about in the actual film is Rey turning out to be " Poochie'd " Funny you should mention that. From what I read, one character has an element of the Poochie meme about them.

Man I miss Ebert. I'd love to hear his opinion on some movies now.
I don't know Siskel well enough to miss him as the show was a bit before my time at least in terms of me being old enough to appreciate it.

Just wait it out. Everything in pop culture today lasts about a month, then Kim Kardashian will show her ass and the next fad/trend/meme etc....arrives.

I didn't get around to seeing A New Hope until I was almost 20, so I was too old to appreciate it and haven't watched any of the others. Well, Phantom Menace started playing when I had the television on in the background, but after about 20 minutes I'd had enough of it.
On the other hand, I find most Star Wars fans to be awesome fun people, so despite not being a fan of the movies, I'm a huge fan of Star Wars culture. Stuff like the movies Fanboys is great.

My enthusiasm for SW took a beating when Lucas started altering the originals, and was completely killed when I saw the prequels. I will see this new movie eventually, but I'll probably forget it about twenty minutes after it ends.

I'd like to think so, but I doubt it.
She'll show her ass, and it'll be reported as "breaking the internet" again.

I do like Star Wars, but I admit that the culture around it and the "idea" of Star Wars is better than the actual movies themselves. Like, if you just sit and think about Star Wars it can seem like the coolest thing ever in your mind. But the movies have never matched that awesomeness in actuality. That being said, while I am not rushing to the midnight screening or anything, I'll see it before the end of the weekend just like everyone else.

I've actually just recently watched the original films. Weirdly enough I saw Episodes 2 and 3 in theaters for some reason and then never got around to watching the originals.
I'm going this weekend to see Episode 7. It looks cool and I think all the hype is fun. I'm looking forward to it.

Sigh, yes another pessimism thread on FAN. Though actually I'm not really pessimistic about it so much as just indifferent. I think its mainly because this movie has been so incredibly over hyped for well over a year now that I'm at a point where I'm just totally over it. Heck, Star Wars as a whole has been pretty over hyped ever since those prequel movies started coming out, and that was back when I was in high school. I just felt inclined to make this thread because I hope that I'm not the only one having this experience. Co-Sign

Quick thing about the movie being overhyped:
The last six movies grossed approximately $28,000,000,000. Sorry, but I don't think you can overhype an installment of a film series that has grossed and made merchandise sells that equal that amount of money. I don't know what the proper level of hype would be, to be honest.

Star Wars Empire Strikes Back is the very first movie I ever saw in a theatre. So Star Wars, to me, is the big screen. Its the darkened theatre, that big tub of popcorn and sitting with my family as a 6 year old. Its special.
