If Sabu cut promos, do you think his star would have risen higher than it did?
By the mid-90s, Sabu was easily one of the most popular wrestlers in the entire world. Even though the mark magazines like PWI always regarded the WWF and WCW as the 'major leagues' of wrestling (not taking indie performers very seriously unless they migrated into the WWF or WCW), Sabu was routinely featured on the cover of said magazines - albeit not as the focal point of those covers.
Sabu get over purely on his look, his dedication / hard work, and what he puts into his matches. But I've never seen the man cut a kayfabe promo, and Sabu has done shoot interviews in which he says that he never wanted to do promos because he knew he sucked at them.
Even if Sabu was sub-Dean Malenko when it came to promos, do you think that cutting them would have elevated his fame, or perhaps hindered it? Perhaps he could have been involved in more memorable stories and feuds if only he had been one to talk. What do you think?
I think they Heyman-esque logic behind Sabu not speaking was, 'This guy will get over on his revolutionary style of wrestling. He can't speak, so let's not have him speak. Were he to speak, detractors would use his speech as ammunition against the man. Highlight his strengths, conceal his weaknesses as much as possible.'

The silence was part of his mystique (even with him calling spots in English on-camera from time to time).
Didn't his ECW debut feature security unstrapping him from a straight jacket before he ran around like a madman? If so, his gimmick was 'you knew he was crazy but how crazy and what made him so wild?'.
But I imagine his promos would feature more pointing than OG Sin Cara.

Yeah, the fact he was silent made him if you ask me. Sabu wouldn't have had half the mystique if he was cutting promos week after week with a thick American accent. He was the madman from Bombay, India not Terry Brunk from Detroit, Michigan.

Yes...it would ruin everything like finding out that George Steele and Kamala could talk perfect English. Look at what happened when he talked in WWECW!
MAYBE if he talked in a gibberish fake Indian "dialect," but no...he was best as the Wildman who had someone talking for him, be it Paul E., Fonzie and/or RVD.

no, but giving him a real, solid manager could have. not fonzie blowing that f***ing whistle, but early paul e. was a good choice.

He would've sucked, check out his shoot interviews, even he admits that he sucks. His twitter feed is cringe worthy.

I remember when I first saw him speak during an interview and I was shocked and it was off putting that he had such a high pitched nasally voice. Would of ruined his mystique unless he spoke in a fake foreign accent

In short, no. That character never should have talked. Or at least never should have spoken more than a few words at a time. And I know kayfabe died 20 years ago, but it would have done more for his legacy if he never did any shoot interviews, etc. either. But he needs to pay his bills, so it's understandable that he's done them in recent years.

I've heard his shoot interviews and even referred to Sabu criticizing his mic skillz in one of his shoot interviews. As for Twitter, I find just about everything on that site cringe-worthy.
