My favourite experience of this was buying FSM magazine and having a woman behind me in the queue announce "It's not really you know?" I explained it was really because I was physically holding the magazine and it wasn't a hologram. This only seemed to rile her more, leading to a tirade where she told me she wrestling was fake, and had her looking very pleased with herself. I then turned and commented on her choice of reading matter (Inside Soap magazine) and pointed out Eastenders wasn't actually a fly on the wall documentary. I don't think I made a new friend that day I had a similar thing happen to me when buying Power Slam. It had Cena on the cover and the bloke at the counter looks at it and goes, "You fancy him?" and I'm like, "Ah, no..." and he looks at me in total confusion and says, "Then why are you buying this?" so I go, "Because I like wrestling?" and he was just pure disgusted I think. Haha.

Fred Blassie would just tell the idiot, "When I f*** your mother, is that fake?"

Fred Blassie would just tell the idiot, "When I f*** your mother, is that fake?" OK, I'm using this from now on if and when it comes up. And let the drunken bar brawls ensue.

Some people are just shitheads. They like to antagonise other people, in this case, wrestling fans.

It hasn't happened in a while, but I've found that a better comparison is to martial arts movies. Except that it's done in front of a "live studio audience".

I get it still from time to time. I just rattle off the injuries they get in ring that would end the fight or the game in a second in any other sport on earth.

I don't get why fans care what non-fans think.
I started watching wrestling in the late 70s. And pretty quickly realized it wasn't totally on the up and up. But one I was a teen I didn't care what non-fans thought.

Small minds often feel the need to belittle others, just to make themselves feel superior.

So here's an example with a little more depth then It's fake". I was watching Raw about two years ago at my parents house and Bray Wyatt was cutting a promo and mom, who is not a fan, asked what Bray thought about some current social issue. My response was that while Windham Rotunda may have an opinion on the matter Bray Wyatt did not because Bray Wyatt only exist with in the WWE Universe. Then I went to explain that sometimes the WWE Universe interacts with the regular world and because of that Bray Wyatt gives interviews and what not. I went on further to explain that in those interviews Mr.Rotunda is still answering as Mr.Wyatt and as a result his only goal is to sell interest in people paying money to see him. Thus while Mr.Rotunda may have an opinion on something gun control Mr.Wyatt does not, unless it would lead to more people paying to see WWE events. My mom is an intelligent woman. She could not understand that whole idea of a person playing a "character" that's them but not always all of them that exist outside the bounds of the forth wall sometimes but never fully out of their "character"
