So here's another one of my job related threads. Makes me feel good posting these.
I work at a freaking busy print shop. I do all kinds of things like designing and printing( I love making Christmas Cards). It's a fun job. We just hired a new guy in our department back in October who has 30 years experience. I thought that I would learn something from him. Boy, was I wrong.
He seems like he has only 30 hours experience instead of 30 years because he doesn't know how to use any of the programs, doesn't offer any insight or how to improve workflow. I'm rather curious as to what he's been doing for 30 years. I'm an impatient teacher so I'm even more annoyed. But whatever, I got over it and he seemed to have potential. And he's a nice guy. I'll be a jerk to him every now and then, haha!
So about two months has passed. He's getting better but he's still learning. Yesterday was ridiculously busy with a lot of tight deadlines. He demonstrated that he's not capable of handling tight deadlines or shows any common sense or problem solving skills. I gave him a project that should only take half an hour but it took him two hours and the job was late. Later in the day he printed some Christmas Cards and I found out he printed them on 11X17 but they could have easily be printed on 8.5X11 and cut in half. I told him that but he argued that was how the customer set it up. I basically told him f*** the customer's set up. We work at a print shop so we're supposed to come up with a better solution. I think I got a headache for the rest of the evening when I got home.
I think today made me pissed off at him even more. And my boss as well. My boss gave him a project to work on. Nothing hard, only one book. He didn't start yet because me and another co-worker had to use the printer because our projects were due before his was. After I'm done my project and I'm off doing something else he tells me he's off for lunch and I'm like okay. Five minutes has passed then I wonder if he actually printed his book. I didn't see him trim it down or anything so I asked my boss. Turns out he left without printing it or telling anyone and it was due in an hour. My boss wasn't impressed. It was done by somebody else so no big deal. He came back and nobody says anything for an hour or two until he asks if anybody printed the book. I told him it was because he left for lunch without telling anyone about it. He was making excuses, wasn't taking responsibility and that made me mad. Thankfully my boss cut in and gave him the talk.
So yeah, I'm not impressed with his performance, especially lately. Again, I don't hate the guy and he's still new. I don't want him to be let go especially before Christmas. I want him to better himself. Unfortunately, I wouldn't be too surprised if he was.
