I'm working from 3-10 PM, meaning I'll spend maybe 2 hours with the family before heading to work on the holiday.
Anyone having to do this?

Honestly it irks me when jobs make people work on Christmas, mine is closed and was closed on Thanksgiving. I work in a supermarket

When I was a journalist I worked on Christmas. I worked on the records desk at hat time, so it was a really easy day and I could have done all my work in about 30 minutes

working Christmas eve, the mall I work in is closed Christmas day (otherwise I think I would probably have to.) and thanks to no public transport I've been given boxing day off (for the first time in several years.)
the mall in Blackburn only shuts for three days a year, Christmas day, new years day and easter sunday.

Honestly it irks me when jobs make people work on Christmas, mine is closed and was closed on Thanksgiving. I work in a supermarket Some places can't be closed on X-mas. My old workplace would ask if anyone was willing to work on holidays. If no one stepped up they chose at random. I would normally agree to work all holidays besides X-mas day.

Hell yeah, I specifically picked up a shift on Christmas. Fourteen hours at time and a half!

I worked last year Christmas, so this year I have it off but I'll be working New Years, three 12hr nights 30/31/1. I am on the third working night of a 6 out of 8 night 12hr shift stretch before my Xmas time off begins, so I'll be tired enough to think I did work xmas.

What do you guys do for work where you are there on Christmas? Sometimes I have to, but only when it falls on Sunday, because I work in radio and we run church services.

Yeah I work at a casino buffet. Casinos are open 24/7. What I don't get though is that I worked on thanksgiving last month and we closed a few hours earlier than usual, but on Christmas we're open regular hours.

Yep, work at a movie theatre and while we're not open 24/7. We never close for anything unless it's one of those unpredictable calamities. We close early on Christmas Eve and open regular hours on Christmas.
While I am of the mindset that every business should be closed on major holidays, getting paid time and a half for working Thanksgiving or Christmas takes a bit of the sting out. Although it would be nice to just be able to relax and spend time with family on those holidays. Either way it'll be busy there and we're the only business that's open other than Walgreens, IHOP, Waffle House, and Huddle House.

I worked in the city morgue when I worked various holidays. Which is something you can't really shut down for a day or so. Wasn't bad. Got time and a half. And one Thanksgiving the two of us working spent the entire time listening to a football game while playing old Atari games in the breakroom. My last job was home health care. I worked every holiday besides X-mas. But I also didn't go into work until 9pm and got off at 8am.So still had time to do holiday stuff with the family and loved ones.

And I'm a notorious holiday whore. If I'm not scheduled to work the day of a holiday, you bet your ass I'm picking up an overtime shift on that day.

Never have, though The ripeners in my company have to come in for a few hours.
Obviously I understand, Police, Doctors and Fire brigade have to work.
Sadly Crime, Illness and Fire doesn't take the day off simply because It's Christmas

Yo! Hey somebody has to keep the lights powered up, so I'm working midnight to noon. On the up side my daughter and wife will be out of town so all I have to go home to is loneliness and the crushing sorrow of my pitiful existence. Plus dinner at Steak & Shake.

I work at an airport. Airports are open every day. So I have to work, holiday or not. So I rarely, if ever, get a holiday off.

I used to work at a golf resort when my daughter was born, and they naturally had me work on that day....so I got to miss my daughter's two first Christmases due to a handful of golfers who were more interested in dicking around than playing an entire 18 holes.
Thankfully I no longer work there and am at a place where I get Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's off to spend with the family...and the moments of seeing my kids open up their gifts or enjoy a nice holiday meal is irreplaceable.

When I was a CNA I had to work all holidays and it never truly bugged me. When I worked at a little caesars in kmart, we had to work holidays. I think I sold one pie. But they cared more about prepping for the next few days after. Now that I am a pharmacy tech we have paid holidays off, but we have to do ot before and after to make up for it.
