The thing I remember most about this was that every time WWE would mention they would be going back to USA Network, the guys at Spike would censor it, so WWE went overboard in the USA mentions. I remember a Vince promo where he mentioned RAW going back to USA quite a bit. Also wasn't this the show where they teased a split of Edge and Lita and she walked out on him to end the show? I think I remember that happening on this show.
Mostly I just remember it for the USA censorings. I don't know if it was petty of WWE to try and get as many mentions of their new network as possible or petty of Spike to censor every one making WWE do it more, but you can tell they left each other in a bad way.

Man, the rebound relationship for Spike was a doozy.

Little things like this are why WWE programming is such a hard sell for them despite the ratings it brings. Had they not urinated on that bridge and set it on fire, Spike would have replaced TNA with Smackdown at the earliest opportunity, but Vince is a petty, petty man.

Actually both WWE and Spike did dirty. Spike publicly announced they weren't renewing WWE programming before WWE & USA could finish working on a contract. That took away a lot of WWE's leverage and USA gave them a take it or leave deal. WWE wanted to let viewers know that the show was moving to USA on the last Spike Raw. Spike being Spike said no on any mentions of that. So WWE said f*** it and said it. Spike tried to censor them and gave up when Vince told Coachman to say it every other sentence. TNA only got on Spike because of the bad breakup. Spike was going to make themselves the UFC network with no more wrestling before any of this happened. And years later, we seen how bad the breakups between UFC and TNA has gone.

The only way Smackdown or any WWE programming can air on Spike TV is if WWE and NBC Universal end their relationship. As long as their partnership exists, WWE can't airing their shows on cable channels that aren't owned by NBCU.

I'm surprised WWE didn't think to do the obvious and have a Jim Duggan cameo for its last Spike show. What do people chant whenever he appears? Exactly.

Like Ion Television, UPN, the CW and MynetworkTV? None of those are cable channels. Exactly. WWE's cable options right now are limited to these channels: Chiller Cloo Lifestyle Network Bravo E! Esquire Network Oxygen Sprout SyFy Universal HD USA Network So that means no Spike TV, MTV, MTV 2, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, FX, FXX, TBS, or TNT.

WWE's cable options right now are limited to these channels: I stand corrected (not American), however, if USA/NBC had full exclusivity on cable, that's the kind of thing they would crow about in press releases, but I don't recall it ever coming up, even when they struck the most recent deal.

When my son was younger I had to suffer through a LOT of Sprout programming.... The idea of WWE on Sprout just made me laugh and cry.

It was pretty petty on Spike TV's part... especially because from what I remember Vince started off the night by thanking Spike for being their home for x number of years.

The same clause existed in WWE's 2000-2005 deal with Viacom. WWE's purchase of WCW would have happened around September/October 2000, but Viacom wouldn't allow it because WWE would have been required to supply programming to TBS and TNT, a violation of WWE's recently signed agreement. It was only when WCW programming was canceled from the Turner networks that Viacom gave WWE the okay to buy WCW.

When it became obvious that ECW's days on TNN (now Spike) were numbered, there was a promo in which The Sinister Minister, Tajiri, Mikey Whipwreck and a slew of extras cut a promo. Sinister Minister gives a speech about freedom of speech (this was shortly after Heyman's "shoot" on TNN aired, but with the audio cut out) behind a lectern. As he's nearing the end of his speech, Mikey hums some patriotic standard (either "God Bless America" or "America The Beautiful") while everyone else chants "USA! USA! USA!" when this exchange happens: Sinister Minister: I didn't know you were such a good hummer, Mikey! Prodigette (who was under the lectern this whole time, pops up): Who you calling "Mikey"?

I remember Joey Styles alluding that she had a dick.

Of course, TNA was without a TV deal for a while because I believe that they had gone months without being on TV with the FSN deal having fallen through, but seriously, what kind of ratings would they have gotten airing on Friday afternoons at 3 p.m.?
