He's only a year and a half removed from multiple MOTY contenders with Bryan and The Shield (and let's not act like it was all his opponents doing a carry job either), so it's not COMPLETELY implausible as a general concept. For this specific match, though...

Soooo....Sting? Oh wait, this is a not so subtle HHHate topic.
Nevermind.

It was a good match with a solid build on a lackluster Mania.

It was a good match with a solid build on a lackluster Mania. Match of the Year though?? Not counting NXT, I can see it being nominated. Wouldn't be my pick to win, would have been either Brock match, but no, problem with it being nominated.

The usos were nominated for (and won) tag team of the year and they've hardly been around this year at all. It isn't too difficult to imagine a wrestlemania match with sting could be match of the year in WWE's eyes.

It was a good match with a solid build on a lackluster Mania. It was a meh match on a pretty solid Mania. Also, Cesaro could have had about 5 matches at least that could have made it over Sting/H.

Reigns/Bryan from Fast Lane, Rollins/Orton from WM or the WM Ladder match weren't nominated over HHH/Sting? yeah...

Reigns/Bryan should have been in the discussion. That match was fantastic

Why not include an NXT match for match of the year. It would be good for the NXT brand to get that bit of rub.

I didn't like that match for the nonsensical run ins. Still trying to figure out why the nwo wanted to help Sting. Only Nash was ever an ally and Sting had been feuding with Hogan all the way up to 2011. And then there was the incredibly stupid aftermath of the handshake after a sledgehammer shot.

I remember we had this discussion of Rock vs. Cena winning MOTY and the rest of nominations. Yeah in a workrate field the match wouldn't been nominated and Daniel Bryan or The Shield would probably been in every nomination. But it's like this. Macho Man vs. Ricky Steamboat at Wrestlemania 3 is a better match than Hogan vs. Andre but too many kids and casuals who are these app voters will vote for the bigger spectacle of Hogan vs. Andre.
But yeah I feel HHH has this need to insert himself in a MOTY nomination and Sting vs. Seth Rollins was the better Sting match

I have no problem with Triple H being nominated if he was actually in a MOTY contender, like last year against Bryan and the Shield.
However, the one with Sting was one of the worst matches all year.

Sting vs Rollins was the better Sting match. That should have got the nod.

To be fair, HHH has had multiple MOTYC's over the years and had multiple in 2014 (vs. Bryan, vs. Shield etc.) but for this particular match? No.
The match itself wasn't bad, they worked the right pace considering the competitors (mainly Sting) involved and it had the right amount of nostalgia. It was the finish that sucked. I like Hunter but no way in hell should he have gone over in that match.
