Was it injuries or something else?
He debuted in the WWF at the Royal Rumble in 2000, getting a huge ovation and ending the undefeated streak of Kurt Angle, an up and coming future star. It seemed like he was going to have a huge push in the spring/summer, but it just sort of died down and he faded into the mid/lowercard.
Why exactly?
Was his neck too beat up to go any further? Did Vince dislike him? Did he have some type of problems with going that high up the card so quick?

His neck was in a real bad way. He tried as long as he could to work with that, but it limited him, and faced with neck surgery and the risks involved, or retiring, he chose to retire and do commentary, since he cared more about being a family man at that point than taking the risk to buy more ring time.
