I remember back in 2006 being really hyped for this game only to be pretty disappointed when I actually played it.
Just wondering what people thought of this game?
The idea that every character that's ever been in A Mortal Kombat game was pretty sweet.
However most of whom were extremely half arsed (even if that) and most had really unessecary redesigns, I absolutely hated Strykers look, why couldn't they have just kept the blue shirt, cap wearing look?, really stupid.
Other characters like Kai looked nothing like their original design. Really f***ing lame.
I also hated the whole Create a Fatality nonsense.. I suppose Boon and Co were to lazy to think up original Fatalities, I can understand not giving each character 2, but they could have atleast had one.
Character endings sucked to, just the character dancing on top of the pyramid with some random story.
The stages for most part were well designed I'll give them that and always enjoyed the stage fatalities.
Konquest was a fun little mode, but honestly, I preferred Deceptions. Still one of the better bits of the game.
Didn't really bother much with motor Kombat, but the bits I did play it just felt like a poor mans Mario Kart.
Kreate a Kharacter would have been better if you could create more than one character. I understand memory is an issue here but honestly, it's a feature that would have just been better not being there at all.
All in all it was very average at best, lots of options but not really enough to keep me playing longterm.
I would say I preferred Deadly Alliance and Deception.
Playing Mortal Kombat X today also helps me realise how much the series has improved from the 00's, the new characters in that game are so much more interesting as it actually feels some effort was put into them, apart from Kenshi, most of the new characters from that the 3D era were very forgettable. It just proves throwing 60+ Characters in a game doesn't garrentie it will better than a game with just 20-25.
So yeah, just thought I would share that.
Mortal Kombat Armageddon could have been amazing but just felt really lackluster.
Maybe you disagree with me and still love it now.
What was your view on this game?

Not the best follow-up to Deception by any means, but I do think in its own right the game is okay. If nothing else the roster is definitely a plus, and the character creator's actually pretty damn robust for a first try and really is something they should have experimented with further. The big failing with the game I think is how completely lacking it is in content; when you get past the roster, which isn't really that much bigger than Deadly Alliance and Deception when you consider how so many of the movesets are just from splitting the fighting styles from those games, the game is lacking in pretty much every area.
As for the Fatality thing, they really should've instead of doing the Kreate a Fatality thing just recycled the ones from Deadly Alliance and Deception. Even if the characters only had one apiece, there'd be barely anyone left after doing that that you would need to make new ones for compared to what was done for the previous two games.

Cool idea, just not executed as well as it could be.
I do like they managed to keep it somewhat canon and still be able to reboot in a way with MK9. I thought that was cool.
The Kreate a Fatality thing was rubbish, I think we're agreed on that.
Not entirely related but f*** Nightwolf.

I honestly don't get why this game gets so much crap. The gameplay is very similar to the previous games (and in fact, I think it improved on it in many aspects) and I loved the character creation. The only really disappointing thing to me was the characters not having individual fatalities. I imagine this was due to technical limitations, but I wouldn't have minded them scrapping Konquest mode and the mini-games (Konquest was rather boring and pointless to me and introduced two characters who tried really hard to be just as bland as Shujinko. I actually liked the mini games but they're really just curiosities you play once or twice and then never both with again) and give the characters at least one unique fatality each but honestly, people make way too big a deal out of it. It's not MK1 any more, the games have more to them than the fatalities. I absolutely hated Strykers look, why couldn't they have just kept the blue shirt, cap wearing look?, really stupid. I was under the impression that his look was part of the reason so many hated Stryker in MKIII/Trilogy. Mostly because it made him look like a dollar store Johnny Cage knockoff and was trying too hard to be hip with the kids (a cop wearing a backwards cap? Really?).

Well, some snipers wear backwards caps, but that is mainly because the scope is in the way.

Actually, I think Kreate A Fighter was the reason for the Kreate A Fatality thing.
With other Mortal Kombat games, you have a set number of characters, and they'd each have their own fatalities.
But with created fighters? Unless you included a TON of "generic" fatalities, it just would feel odd to only have ones from other characters. Hence, everyone gets a relatively generic Fatality system so the KAFs don't feel out of place.
Haven't played the game itself to judge, but that's my theory on it.

MK 9 got the Stryker look down pat, despite him looking like John Cena as a prison guard.

I enjoyed it, but then I hadn't played Mortal Kombat for nearly ten years prior to picking it up for like ten bucks.
