Come on, they weren't THAT bad.
Some fond memories of them...
*Getting a Hogan level pop for winning the tag titles in Montreal. *Doing a one-off reunion with just two of the members in ECW. They looked great and squashed some jobbers...then never appeared again. *A while after they broke up, but Sylvan getting a pop like he was a God for a throwaway singles match in Montreal. I think all he did was beat Tatanka by DQ.

I loved them. I'm totally fine with gimmicks like theirs. I could've done without them adding Conway though.

What was the purpose of retconning them from being French to being French-Canadians?

I've always found the segment where Rob Conway, the turncoat, attacked the Dudley Boyz and turned his back on the country who's military he was serving with to pledge allegiance to a country that he wasn't fighting against (despite some minor tensions between the two at the time) absolutely hilarious. The idea of this veteran beating someone down with an American flag and then waving the French one... so ridiculous.

Twas a good mashup theme that had Japanese flutes providing harmony to the dramatic La Resistance music. I also remember making CAWs of Rene and Sylvain in SmackDown Shut Your Mouth when they first showed up. Good times.

FiFi was the star of that team. She carried them.

FiFi was the star of that team. She carried them. Fifi didn't show up until Dupree went solo. Supposedly, Conway was added at Sylvan's suggestion since he and Dupree didn't get along, and he had worked with Conway in OVW, and felt they had better chemistry both in and out of the ring. From what I remember, Conway's gimmick didn't actually involve him being in the military; it was all a set-up on the Dudleyz, who they knew would come to the aid of an American solider. He was just an American who hated the country's politics, and was willing to impersonate a serviceman to drive home a point.

They were French. Then they were Canadian. I double-hated those guys.

Have literally zero idea why they've received so much scorn over the years.
However, I do feel their characters were one of those weird offshoots of post-9/11 patriotism where the US hated France for some reason and wanted to push the term "Freedom Fries".

To be fair, I think a good chunk of people who used that did so ironically. Most people I knew at the time thought that was the dumbest shit, in part since people typically just say "fries", it's like trying to change the word refrigerator but leaving fridge the same. I mainly remember La Resistance due to SvR06, and mildly pushing Rene Dupree in GM mode, but using Conway and Grenier as jobbers.

Sylvan I could take or leave, but Dupree could have been a bigger deal with a more consistent push.

Hated them all, but Sylvans mega pop in Montreal as the Quebec ambassador is literally an all time great Smackdown moment.

I was speaking more on the congressional point of view at the time. I'll skimp on the politics for obvious reasons, but the Steiner/Nowinski debate from the same time period is also a weird offshoot that's almost downright comical in how backwards it comes across today.

There were times in the early-mid 2000s things where I'd think "hey I miss wrestling let's see what's going on." Then I'd see La Resistance, Eugene, Batista, Diva Search, or something else unappealing, and go on my way.

They almost killed Spike Dudley. I saw that bump in person. That's all I remember about them.
