He came back so that everyone could get a look at the real deal, now. Unfortunately, they kicked his sorry ass out on the street. See, if it was the earlier version, and his partner was Mr. Brown, he could have at least thrown some laws around, in order to turn this hellhole upside down. They remembered that, so they gave him his receipt.

I was really happy to see him back. And I didn't think he performed badly at all, certainly not to the point where he needed to go away. I do remember he wasn't doing the head wobbling, like he was trying to show everyone he had matured and didn't need to do that anymore. So it was same D'Lo but like a low key version, and it didn't really set the world on fire.

I think they were bringing him on to help put over new guys, but a few months later the financial crisis happened so he was let go with most of the other veteran jobbers (though somehow Funaki survived until 2010 I think)

I wouldn't of minded seeing him get a run with the strap. First black WWE champion would've create quite a buzz for the product and given a boost to the business. Quality post

He also had a brief run in TNA in 2012.

Early Attutude Era, D'Lo was one of the best consistent performers and was really over to boot too.
I think he suffered by being one of Russo's guys, so when Russo went in 99, D'Lo was an afterthought. Shame, because he was arguably the greatest European Champion and he was one of my favourites when I was a kid.

He stopped doing his bobblehead taunt upon his return. What a letdown.
He returned by challenging and beating Santino, who was IC Champ at the time. But absolutely no fanfare, no vignettes and demoted to jobber immediately after that feud.

He came back, got surprisingly good reactions so the WWE re-signed him. Rather than use him to get younger guys over, they just stopped using him until his reactions faded away because, that's a good way to use money.

Really you can compare and contrast how they brought back D'Lo and how they brought back R-Truth at that same time in 2008. D'Lo was likely more memorable to older fans but still Killings was hardly some unknown himself. But Truth got vignettes and a hyped debut on SmackDown while D'Lo was just sent out there to drown on RAW.

Speaking of Truth, weren't there dirt sheet reports that he got heat for looking so weak in his debut?

Well, here's a midcarder from the Attitude Era!" and expected him to instantly get big reactions like they gave Cena and Batista.

Speaking of Truth, weren't there dirt sheet reports that he got heat for looking so weak in his debut? that sounds about right, I remember I saw him have a dark match that summer against Domino which was a back and forth contest and that's similar to how his debut against Kenny Dykstra was. The way I see it, if you wanted Truth to have the whole match and squash his opponent, why not have him face a "local competitor"? If he's debuting against a current "WWE Superstar", unless he's a wrecking ball like Ryback, the match should be competitive. I like how much I'm thinking about things that really don't matter.

He didn't get cheered in his first match, so they gave up.
Seriously, that's obviously what happened. They were terrible about that back then.
