Hard to believe its been 12 years since the movie came out. How time goes by fast. IMO still one of the best comic book movies. None of the Amazing movies will ever beat it. This the movie Marvel/Sony has to beat for their reboot.

Some parts that suck, but by far the best Spider-Man movie.

Willem Dafoe's performance is so goddamn ridiculous but I enjoy it for that sake. It's much better than 3 or either of the Amazing Spider-Man movies, but nowhere near as good as Spider-Man 2. Not that either have aged too well, though.
EDIT: Argh didn't see 2 in the title. Yes 2 is the best. Molina is one of the better performances for a villain in the genre.

My fav at the time, but that Spider-Man series did not age well.
Outside of Toby, and the guy who played J Jonah Jameson I thought it was casted pretty terribly. The women who played Aunt Mae was just so dreadful. She managed to make an "old lady" role seem unsympathetic.

It's been a long time since I watched the original Spider-Man trilogy.

It's a decent film and still is currently the only Spidey movie with a happy ending.

As much as I enjoy the Amazing series, the Maguire films had plenty of good things about them, and this is the closest we've come to a completely satisfying Spider-Man film.
It's probably even more enjoyable when you just view it as a random Spidey adventure, outside the context of the trilogy.

Some really cool Spidey vs Dock Ock fights, but everything else (aside from any JK Simmons/Elizabeth Banks scenes) ranges from fair to dreadful. Both the writing and portrayal of Mary Jane is so bad in these movies.

Still in my opinion the most overrated superhero movie of all time. Horrible dialogue, goofy and contrived situations, romantic leads with less chemistry then Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman. I still don't understand why this was hailed as the greatest comic book movie of all time at its release.

At this time in the comics, MJ was a nuanced character that was well beyond the distressed damsel that the movies made her out to be.

Doc Ock's characterization still bothers me. I was really looking forward to a battle of Octavious' arrogant scientific intellect vs. Parker's humble genius and instead got another quasi-sympathetic villain being controlled by a another personality which at least felt a touch more justified with Osborn and the Green Goblin.
Jameson's kid as the disposable fiance feels like a bit of waste too. Not that I was expecting him to become Man-Wolf, but he's such a plot device that they might as well have just kept him off screen for all the character he had.

I..... Don't like the Sam Rami movies to be honest.... Tobi Maguire was not a good Parker /Spidey, there were some absolute corny/hammy moments, and as much as I loved Doc Ock I didn't like how he was used. I always saw him as a more team based villain or someone to out think Peter. That fight scene on the building bothered me as well. One solid hit from Spider-Man should be all that knocks Otto out. He isn't super durable or anything, yet him and Spider-Man man just trade blows like it's nothing. Wow I come off as nit picky lol

Lot of fun, great great movie. I quote jokes from that all the time, especially "We've found the rubber band", always kills.
