Decided on a whim to watch this last night, pretty good film. Do I bother with the sequels?
Also, not to sound morbid, but at what point does the real life tragic accident happen? During the ending fight?

Guess it's not a good day to be a bad guy, huh, Skank?
According to wikipedia, Brandon Lee was shot when he finds Shelley being raped and shot by Funboy played by Michael Massee.

The Crow is probably my favourite movie. There's not a frame of that film I don't love. As for the sequels... The Crow: City of Angels looks great, has a great soundtrack and score, but is ruined by some terrible acting, writing, and a post-production butchering by the producers to give it a "happy" ending. The Crow: Salvation again looks great, though the soundtrack and score dropped off in quality. Eric Mabius is decent, but that's about as far as the positives go. Kirsten Dunst sleepwalks through her performance, and the script is garbage. The Crow: Wicked Prayer... Where to begin with this one? Someone thought casting Edward Furlong in a lead role was a good idea (in 2005 no less). David Boreanaz is game but is basically just playing Angelus without a semblance of decent writing to back it up. Tara Reid is Tara Reid. They have Dennis Hopper humiliate himself as a jive-talking Satanic priest, and Danny Trejo performs a war dance. Genuinely one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Also, not to sound morbid, but at what point does the real life tragic accident happen? During the ending fight? As has been mentioned, Brandon Lee was shot during the scene where he comes home to find T-Bird's gang beating and raping Shelly. At that point most of Brandon's scheduled filming had been completed, and the only real sequence in the final film that needed to be done with digital composition was the scene where Draven returns to the loft apartment after being resurrected. The scene where Sarah goes to the loft to find him ("I do care") was done with a double.

I love the movie but, I have got to say, it features some of the worst fake guitar playing ever.
I don't think the sequels are anything special. Certainly not as good as the first.

Fake playing as in the music or actually playing the instrument? Because Brandon Lee actually learned to play the guitar for the role and the first solo you hear is all him, same with the second solo.

An all time favourite that I watch multiple times every year and never gets old from the visual to the soundtrack it is as close to a perfect blend a film can get.
And Michael Wincott as TopDollar (such an awesome villan name) is easily one of my favourite movie villans of all time and speaking of Marvel needs to cast him as a major villan in a netflix series.

I would argue that The Crow was groundbreaking. It was the fully formed, cohesive vision that movies like Nightmare Before Christmas and Batman Returns had been building towards.

But the guitar work is definitely Brandon's playing though. He didn't write the music they just told him to wing it and he did.

Loved it when it came out, and it deserves its spot as a classic, but for me it hasn't aged as well as it could have.
