It's the first RAW of 2016, live from San Antonio, and for the first time in several months, there'll be no football game on as competition... though there is one next week, so the writers had better write a good show for us!
And it seems they're planning something big, as tonight's main event pits Roman Reigns against Sheamus in a rematch for Reigns' WWE World Heavyweight Championship, with no less than Vince McMahon as the special guest referee! Vince was embarrassed last week when he was arrested following a clash with a police officer in a failed attempt by Stephanie McMahon to restrain Reigns, and you'd figure The Chairman will stack the deck to ensure that Reigns is no longer the champion. Plus there's still the spectre of Triple H looming following the events of the TLC PPV.
John Cena returned last week, earning a DQ win over United States Champion Alberto Del Rio following interference by the League of Nations. With Cena coming so close to regaining his US Title, will there be another title match tonight, or will something else be in store for Cena?
The Royal Rumble is just three weeks away in Orlando, and last week, The Big Show was the first Superstar to announce his participation. Since then, Curtis Axel, who claims he was never eliminated from last year's match, also confirmed his entry. Which other Superstars will book their tickets tonight?
A sad celebrity split occured last week on SmackDown, when Tyler Breeze and Summer Rae announced that they were going their seperate ways, even though Breeze had defeated Goldust. So what's next for Prince Pretty and "Hot Summer"?
The New Day are feeling disrespected lately, after being snubbed for the Best Tag Team Slammy, and seeing Xavier Woods being put through a table by the Dudley Boyz on SmackDown. Big E, Kofi and Xavier will want to start 2016 off on the right note, so how will they accomplish this tonight?
In recent weeks, Becky Lynch has grown tired of Charlotte's involvement in her matches, and has asked the Divas Champion to stay out of her business. Charlotte did just that last week by not even appearing on RAW... and Lynch proceeded to lose to Sasha Banks. Knowing Charlotte, she's likely to badger Becky about this on the show tonight, so will tonight be when Lynch finally loses patience with her best friend?
From this week onwards, RAW won't be the only WWE programming on USA, as this Thursday sees the full-time debut of SmackDown on the network, with new announcer Mauro Ranallo. Will we see WWE's newest acquisition tonight to help promote the programme? All this and more, including the fallout from Kevin Owens' attack on Dean Ambrose, tonight from 8/7c, followed on the WWE Network by the season finale of Breaking Ground!
