Returned last week, gone again this week. And I didn't even notice it until after the show.
Is this a thing going forward? Is Cena actually looking to scale back? Is WWE actually looking to move on from him, at least as the main protagonist? Obviously they're trying with Reigns. But they can't be so sure.

Yeah I read that NBC loves Cena and they (and the WWE) are going to use him more in movies/tv/news and all sorts of stuff so yeah he's going to be scaled back a bit. I don't know why he wasn't there tonight though.

He was in the recap at the start of the show. Does that count?

I'm fine with Cena taking it easy. The guy's been going full-tilt for the past 10 years or so.

I assume he at least appeared in the dark segment after the show. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Did a little digging, they announced at last week's Smackdown tapings that Cena will be at next week's (tomorrow's) Smackdown tapings. But he was reportedly advertised for tonight as well.
I could see them using Cena on Smackdown a lot to give it a boost for the USA move.

As I said in the Raw thread He was only officially announced and has been hyped for Smackdown.
they probably kept him off Raw to make his Smackdown appearance seem more important.

He's at home washing his tights shorts! He wears compression underwear under his shorts, which constitutes as tights.

Cena being used as a special attraction is a better use of him at this point, especially as Reigns establishes himself as the main guy. Like Lesnar, it will make it feel like a bigger deal when he shows up.

Agreed with the sentiments in the thread. Cena deserves time off, Cena will be better off as an attraction, etc. I'm just surprised, because those thoughts have been around for years, and it has not gone that way. For him to make a big return then not be on the next week's Raw is quite un-Cena-like. It's indicative of an actual change in how they're going to use him.

Shouldn't people be happy that Cena was not on Raw last night? One of the board's biggest complaint was too much Cena. He goes away for a while and it's "Where's Cena?". He is in that stage Hogan was in when he let others run with the ball while he hangs slightly out of the spotlight. I am sure he will get a renewed push for Mania season.
