A man who's accomplished this much who feels like a cemented midcarder. It's crazy. Del Rio for example, when I see Del Rio I can sort of see how he's "sort of a big deal if I squint hard enough" although he's upper midcard and I guess he's seen as some big dude in Mexico but Sheamus man, how can they give a guy so much and yet they've fallen off like that? This isn't just recently. Even when he was world champion prior to this he's felt like a midcarder even when they tried to make the Brogue Kick the Jesus Boot. I don't understand. Sad.

It's another case of them slapping endless titles and accomplishments on a guy in order to convince the audience that he was a top star. That never, ever works. Hogan was a top star because people tuned in to watch him specifically, the title was irrelevant. Likewise for Austin, Rock, and Goldberg. They spent so much effort trying to artificially make guys like Sheamus and Del Rio matter, when the truth was they were never going to matter if the fans didn't care.

Hey, you don't know! He hasn't won the IC Belt. Maybe people will finally accept him when he's the newest Grand Slam Champion.

That's why when I chuckle when people say Reigns has been pushed harder than anyone.
Sheamus, and Del Rio, have been given EVERYTHING and yet they both feel like glorified Midcarders and couldn't draw flies.

There was one time last year when Sheamus looked interesting. It was when he beat the shit out of Zack Ryder while talking on the microphone about it.
Sadly, we just got the same Sheamus as always, but with worse hair.

Sheamus continues his quest to kill all "the little fellas"...by attacking a 6'2, almost 230 lb pretty boy bodybuilding enthusiast.

the title in itself is just a prop. you can slap as many of them as you want on a guy but if the fans don't care he might as well have never held anything at all. I mean, it's a predetermined sport, it's not like winning the title means you actually won a bunch of fights. getting over with the crowd to the degree where you can punch your own ticket is the real accomplishment, not arbitrarily being given a belt.

I liked the idea of Sheamus's character being an avatar for Vince, dismissing anyone below 6'4 as a vanilla midget and beating the piss out of anyone who doesn't fit that specific mould of wrestler Vince likes while asking the crowd if they're (sports-)entertained.

Sheamus seems to be a guy that is their "bad beat". They decided to put him over Daniel Bryan in 18 seconds while he was a babyface when Bryan as a heel was the guy everyone wanted to cheer for. His first run as champ was upstaged by Nexus debut when they became top heels in one segment. They were positive that his repackage would get him back over as a big heel, so they put the briefcase on him. They keep thinking they have a great hand & bet big and keep losing.
He's a good worker, good on the mic and can work both face and heel. He tries as hard as he can to get over whatever they tell him. It just doesn't work in the Main Event. He's an extremely strong upper midcard guy who can give ascending talent a big boost as they move up the card. (Ex playing the Irish bully on Sami Zayn to eventually lose after tormenting him).
Here's hoping they see this.

Over there they just call it a Whip. "He calls that the Rear Whip John!" The explanation of "Irish Whip" I've heard is that it is like a stupid Irishmen joke, i.e. the Irish are so stupid that they hit the rope with the person instead of the other way around.
