A potential huge feud with his brother, a fairly rare brother vs brother opportunity - thrown away in a nothing match. Potential follow up storylines never happened and the feud was forgotten.
Gets promo's interrupted by Titus O'Neil for weeks. Leads to nothing. They have a random match on Raw and the promo's weren't even mentioned.
Is seen in the crowds with the Ascension. They team very few times, no connection is made and this again goes nowhere.
The Stardust gimmick is terrible and seems to be hard for creative to write for, but it seems that whenever anything happens to the Stardust character it's dropped or forgotten a few weeks later. It's fair to say that Cody Rhodes is at the lowest point of his entire career right now, and booking this like can't help.

But Cody's committed to the Stardust character. That's the saddest part. Everyone knows it's a go-nowhere gimmick, and he should have taken the opportunity to drop it when his father passed. Instead, he stuck with it and he's just spinning his wheels.

I'd have to agree. It's been that way for a while too. I don't understand it. He's second generation to one of the all time greats. He's got a good look, great on the mic, solid in the ring and can make any character they give him work. He's like the modern day Foley and should be booked on the same level. Even now, with all the injuries, they still don't push him. It's not like he hasn't paid his dues. It's not like people don't like him. Seriously, does anyone on this board not like Cody Rhodes?

It's weird, because the gimmick doesn't even come off like they can't do things with it. I don't buy that it's hard for Creative to write things with it, given the fact we got that Summerslam match and then the Cosmic Wasteland stuff right after; it's just that it was almost immediately dropped. It's more accurate to say that Creative won't write for it rather than that they can't. Ideas come and go when people think "let's give Cody a thing" without actually giving enough of a shit to see it through.

Take out the specific references to Cody and this could be like a mad lib describing just about anything in WWE.

Cody, Ziggler and Barrett are the three most talented home grown guys that'll never get the chance to shine the way they should.

I think he's a funny guy but I can't say I've ever felt like "Oh man I hope Cody is wrestling tonight!" or something. And you say he can "make any character work" well the fact nobody seems to care about Stardust implies he's not making it work. I realise this is a booking problem and don't get me wrong, he's giving it everything he has and seemingly enjoys living the gimmick but the crowds seem pretty quiet for him besides some half hearted chants of "Cody!" now and then. I would like to see them do SOMETHING with him though because I think he does have a lot of good things going for him like you say.

He might not want to drop the stardust gimmick because he does not want people to think anything he achieves as Cody is just because his dad died.

I'd say a crazy vs crazy feud against Ambrose writes itself. Or send him to NXT as a gesture challenger against "the demon" Balor.

Him or Cesaro. Both guys could give a ton more than they are. If they had gone with Dustin as a psycho dangerous heel Goldust on the way out with Cody being the one to beat him, it could have put him over in a big way.

Cody could do a lot better, and he shouldn't be lowering himself to feuding with and losing to Titus O'Neil of all people, but I wouldn't call him the "worst booked" when there are people who would love to be in even Cody's diminished position,

I would be a whole lot better if fueds had a pay off. It's just wrestling so we don't need anything elaborate just someone needs to win.

the most WWE part about the entire thing is that they accidentally booked him to be a super over face during the whole "look how evil we are as we screw everyone and they just take it" part of the original Authority/D-Bry fiasco and then did nothing much with him.

He might not want to drop the stardust gimmick because he does not want people to think anything he achieves as Cody is just because his dad died. I can see that in the immediate wake of Dusty's passing, which arguably we are still in, and not cashing in on his dad's death is commendable. But to hold that over the rest of his career (remember the guy is 30, he's got a lot of time left if he wants) would be overdoing it. That said, I really think he loses the Stardust gimmick in 2016.

well I think the stardust/ascension thing was supposed to lead into something with cesaro but he got hurt a couple weeks after the first the cosmic wasteland showed up in the crowd watching cesaro's match

I've seen too much of this guy being great, even in the stardust gimmick(not televised promos yaaaaaaaaaay) to believe that where he is is his fault.
