January 4th's edition of WWE Monday Night Raw did what has to be considered a disappointing number given it was the first week since September that they were without any NFL competition.
The show did 3.57 million viewers, even with the advertising of Roman Reigns defending the WWE title against Sheamus with Vince McMahon as referee. Worse, even with no football to blame, the second and third hours dropped from the second strongest first hour since April. The number is lower than what the show had been doing in the summer.
The rating is almost identical to last week when Raw went against the highest rated NFL game of the season, and it's usually normal to expect a 10 percent increase just based on no NFL competition alone. It is up from the football season average, but given the ratings the first two McMahon appearances drew, it was down from the first and the same as the second without the competition.
Raw was the highest rated show on cable for the night, however, slightly ahead of The O'Reilly Factor on Fox News.
The three hours were:
8 p.m. 3.71 million viewers 9 p.m. 3.52 million viewers 10 p.m. 3.50 million viewers

Somewhat on topic: Six years ago, Raw and Impact combined for 7.8 million viewers going head to head on Monday night January 4th (5.6 for Raw and 2.2 for TNA). Wrestling has slid pretty badly, even over the past 5-6 years.

I still find it horrifying that many people listen to Bill O'Reilly.

No recovery in sight.
If they pick a shitty Rumble winner, it'll drop even more.

Nothing to do now but to keep the strap on the Big Dog, head to the pub, have a couple of pints and wait for this all to blow over!

I'm not surprised they didn't get a bump due to MNF ending. I would imagine the crossover of WWE fans and sports fans is not that high anymore.

Maybe televised wrestling just isn't working anymore.

Maybe televised wrestling just isn't working anymore. The current RAW format absolutely needs a complete overhaul. All WWE needs is a swift kick in the ass... (goes back to watching Lucha Underground marathon on El Rey)

Whereas a decade ago O'Reilly was FOXNEWS top gun, he's #3 now behind Hannity and Kelly. So people would only slightly rather watch WWE than one of a half dozen news channels C show

You know, I don't get their fight to "keep the casual viewers".
I don't think there's too many of them left around, that sounds like their base. They should do their damndest to make sure it stops shrinking.

I can only speak for myself but when I see Stephanie/Vince/Authority shenanigans as the focal point of the show I check out right then and there. That angle has been flogged more than the zombie corpse of ECW. f*** right off with that shit, WWE.
