Aren't there other broken-down, washed-up, non-hateful wrestlers WWE could sign?

There's much more to someone's character and personality than a few off-color things they may have said in less sensitive times. So long as he's not making this the forefront of his personality, I don't think it's really anyone's business. You'd wind up liking less than 1% of people if you cherry-picked the things they've said at one time or another and held it against their ENTIRE sense of being. Hopefully AJ's smartened up with age in regards to this sort of thing.

AJ's never been confirmed as a homophobe.
The "Gay Community?!?!?!?!" clip that (albeit hilariously) gets reposted all the time makes it sound like AJ is angered gay men find him attractive, when rather his voice sounds more raised out of surprise when you hear the whole thing in context. The hosts of that show immediately afterwards give it a homophobic vibe.
Then there's his early-2000s frequent use of "Faggot." There's no way to defend that, and I won't, it's utterly terrible. But people were largely ignorant to the gravity of that slur at that juncture, especially in the carny world of rasslin', so the fact that he hasn't said it in at least seven years has to mean something.
Otherwise, there's not a whole lot for me to go on that AJ "hates gays." Yes, he's a practicing Christian and very passionate about it, but the teachings of Jesus Christ emphasize love and not hate, so until I get evidence pointing otherwise, I'll assume AJ's opinion on homosexuals is the former.

Well, they were going to sign "Loves Gays" Paris, but no one's seen him since WCW folded.

The Gay community clip always came across as he was amused at what he had been told. And yeah, it seems like AJ has matured a lot from where he was 12 years ago.

So him badgering a gay wrestler to change his lifestyle is cool? What if his religion compelled him to attack Jews for 'killing Jesus'? What if he were a Mormon who believed that black skin is a curse from God?
Why is 'faggot' acceptable (and not censored by this board) while the 'n-word' would be grounds for a nuclear meltdown (and apparently needs special protection on this board)? Are you honestly telling me that ten years ago no one thought 'spewing this word that's a slur to homosexuals (especially gay men) might be as bad as spewing racist slurs'? This putz who won't say the word 'ass' had no problem saying that word frequently? That's where his religious beliefs drew the line- and yet he's allegedly not a hater?

If we're going to use religion as the basis of the discussion, I don't think we can let this go on any further.
