Remember when Ryder stood side-by-side with CM Punk and Daniel Bryan and was being touted as a future star? Too bad they pissed that away when he got turned into a sacrificial lamb for the Cena/Kane story.

I mean you could see the dollar signs. Boy that was a hot storyline and I hope people were paid well for making it happen. People that dig ditches and are paid by the hour didn't see that it would be a bad idea.

Nah, it's not a lack of faces... or heels for that matter. Not even tweeners.
It's a lack of making people give a crap about the product. And how can we when wins and losses are treated as worthless, when there's little to no continuity from week to week, when nothing is really promoted or made to look like a big deal, when the announcing team has no idea how to put over the talent and make you care about them, either positively or negatively, and when every decision is being made by a senile old man who has missed so many opportunities to make new stars that it's honestly gotten silly at this point.
And the guy they are focusing on right now, well, he's not exactly lighting the world on fire judging from this past week's rating.
The sad thing is that there are so many great talents on NXT right now with boatloads of potential. But when you look at everybody who has been brought up of late, really, none of them have flourished on the main roster. Either they've been dead on arrival like The Ascension, Bo Dallas, Emma, or Adam Rose or they've been beaten like a drum to the point that the crowd has given up on them, like Neville or Tyler Breeze. Even Charlotte, Becky, and Sasha weren't lucky enough to make it onto the main roster unscathed. Charlotte had the disastrous Reid Flair stuff and aside from that hasn't really made people take notice of her. Becky has mainly been in position to put the other women over, and Sasha... well, she's stuck in the female New Day right now.
That's why I'm terrified of what might happen to guys like Finn Balor, Hideo Itami, Sami Zayn, or even guys like AJ Styles or Shinsuke Nakamura if they do come up to the main roster. At best... they might be at Owens level. At worse... well, it's harder to go any lower then Rose/Dallas.

The real problem is a lack of stars. The years of 50/50 booking and reliance on the same small pool of guys has left WWE in this mess. Honestly, why does everyone need to get their wins back? Mankind feuded with The Rock for like 2 years, and almost never won. The one time he did beat The Rock it was a REALLY big deal. Bigger than any of The Rock's wins over him. The Rock almost always lost to Austin as well, and when the times he did beat him, they were also a very big deal. If two guys face each other in the UFC and they have not lost in a year or so, it is a very big deal. If two guys in the UFC who have a fight record of 4-4, fight each other it is never a big deal.
